Very enterprising and an interesting mod. For me though, the whole point of using a Holga is to do away with all the fuss that goes with normal photography. That missing aperture of F8 is also pretty useful close up. Thanks Rog.

That's what I felt. I like shooting the Holga without metering. I guess you can have best of both worlds. Be strict on yourself and set it to 1/125 and don't change it (but you probably will 😂)

For better or worse, I've just bought a Holga, mines the 120 GCFN with the multi coloured flash, not sure what that's all about but hey ho. I bought it just literally as a mess about camera as I get back into B&W film photography along with a few other vintage camera's I now own. I may well try some of that 1mm thick self adhesive foam sheet that you use to replace light seals in old camera's and make some for around the grooves in the back cover. I noticed Roger that on your original Holga that the cover clips were on upside down at one point so I don't know if that was leading to the back popping off. Love your style of content presenting, keep it up, watch all your stuff. Regards, Steve

Under the hood he probably uses an ESP32 based microcontroller. They can be flashed with various firmwares so it might be possible to update it. Also, I find that depending on how the app was coded on the controller (I think he probably used a web interface), different browsers sometimes get different results.
@lensman57622 жыл бұрын
This where it gets odd! Holga and Microcontroller? Holga is all about operating the shutter with the help of a bent safety pin as a spring, and a slit instead of an aperture. This is where its charm and attraction lies.

Great job, Boss! I'm from Seattle and get a lot of flat lighting as well. Do you normally push your film to help get contrast on those days? Keep up the great work!
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss2 жыл бұрын
Not really push. Normally I would expose normally and extend the development time by 15-20%. I do the same on contrasty days but under develop instead. Try a push and an over develop next time you have a flat day and see how it works for you.

It sounds very interesting to make the Holga more useful. It remains to be seen how much the modified Holga is. The original Holga was a fixed 125th @ f13. I used to feed mine with Shanghai GP3. However it was really a camera for a sunny day unless you used Ilford XP2. It took a sunny day to make the vignette really strong anyway. The Lomo Diana + gave better results than the Holga because the apertures are smaller. That camera was for 400ASA stock only. Both have a simple meniscus lens.

This is cool! But it somewhat contradicts the original "idea of Holga", which was supposed to be an extremely simple and therefore imperfect toy camera with an extremely interesting, plastic lens (sharp in the center, blurring and vignetting at the edges of the frame) which had to be sometimes covered with black tape so as not to let parasitic light inside. And perhaps that was her charm? After all, Holga won't be perfect by adding a shutter speed mechanism anyway. But maybe that's what the audience is waiting for? I don't have a Holga among my cameras - I'm satisfied with old boxes and a Polish plastic toy camera, for children and scouts. They are different from Holga, but they will not evolve into complications and perfection. Greetings from Poland 😁

A pity that the aperture isn't f16 or f8, it would make shooting sunny 16 rules easy
@thomaschipman2 жыл бұрын
the whole point of sunny 16 is to approximate the exposure and rely on the latitude of the film to handle the heavy lifting. f13 is close enough to f16 to not matter at all when using sunny 16 with pretty much anything but slide film.
