After reading over the comments, I'm just gonna say: I've bought some prints from this channel on eBay and they are hanging in my 35-year as a photographer for the US National Forest Service father's living room. Roger has shown many of use multiple techniques in the darkroom; exposed (pun intended) to many new developers and film stocks,...whatever. He is well deserving of a gift like this. I look forward to learning on this channel. I proudly use my stickers and my coffee mug. So, good on you, Roger. Thank you for helping to make a good contribution to KZbin.

What an amazing gift! I use a Voigtländer lens myself on my M5 with a somewhat bigger aperture - if you thought the f2 caused problems with the view, imagine how much view an f1.1 lens covers ;-) When I got the M5, it was the only 50mm lens in my price range they had in stock at the store, so I had no choice if I wanted to be able to use the camera immediately after the purchase. Interesting video. I taught my daughter in 30" to use RF. I had her frame me at 5'/1.5m held my hand showing two fingers. Then I showed one finger. Made her focus on both and then concentrate on the single finger. Done. F-stops? The bigger the number, more in focus, smaller numbers= less in focus. SLR won because they are simply better. I use both..
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss3 жыл бұрын
Is your Daughter still shooting Jason? I'd say different RF vs SLR. Brian Duffy was once commissioned to shoot a composer for Vogue. The composer demanded Duffy use a Leica as it (RF) were quiet. Unfortunately Duffy wasn't used to a RF and left the lens cap on! The boys in the Darkroom saved his bacon by telling the editor they accidentally ruined the film. ha ha. I read that.

What I've always wondered about Roger, never having a Leica to compare films with, is the frame spacing compared to my Nikon. I find when cutting film to fit in file sheets that the space between frames is quite tight and if then printing either end negative getting the film nicely in the enlarger is tricky, does the Leica leave more, the same or less space between frames.
@Tom_YouTube_stole_my_handle3 жыл бұрын
It’s about the same. Having cut up and mounted thousands of transparencies from Nikon’s though I don’t recall it ever being tricky. I wonder if your Nikon is the one not leaving enough space?

@lensman57623 жыл бұрын
This is getting ridiculous. Nikon F5, Leica III F, and now a Leica MP? Who are these benefactors of yours? I would like to get to know them. I guess a 35mm Summicron F1.4 ASPH will be gifted to you next. Enjoy the camera, it is one hell of a piece of mechanical engineering perfection. The only thing I ever got for free was a 135mm F5.6 Symmar S in a Compur Shutter that didn't work, and it still doesn't. That lens is the modern reincarnation of the Voigtlander Apo Lanthar line of lenses. The old ones used Lanthanum glass which as you might know that Lanthanum is quite radioactive and it was later banned since the people who oversaw the grinding of the lanthanum lens elements went slightly neon blue from the grinding dust. I am not sure if the modern version contains lanthanum or not ( these days everything is done by CNC grinding machines so it is quite possible it does employ Lanthanum glass ), but the Apo suffix suggest a highly corrected lens. The use of radioactive glass in the production of high grade lenses was a common practice in the past, an done of the reasons why older premium lenses appear to have a certain character that is totally missing from modern lenses. An example to mention is the older Pentax 67 105mm F2.4, the Takumar version, which employed a Thorium glass element. These older lenses are highly sought after, but they do tend to go yellow with age. I like the photos of the cars. Very you.

As a spoilt brat I have an M3, M5 and an M6 - M5 is by far me favourite of the lot. But my fav camera of all is my Bessa R3 - should really get rid of the Ms....

So that’s how you get a 4-grand camera past the domestic community. I’ve been saying things like “no not a new camera, I’ve had it for ages” but I think that’s wearing thin.

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss In fairness I’ve good a number of bodies and if I bring out an old favourite she asks if it’s a new camera, so I’m responding truthfully, most of the time.Btw nice results from the MP, however I think that is more to do with careful developing and printing.
