You guys are doing it right! Practice first in a low threat environment. Nicely done. Another tip - I like to brace my knee(s) against the tree whenever possible. That gives me three points of stability for my shot...feet, knees, hips. Finally - don't neglect the weird angles from a saddle. You can shoot 360 degrees, but when a big ol' buck comes in from an angle you've never practiced...it might throw you for a loop.

This will be my third season hunting from a treesaddle, I was sold from day one. I haven't sat in an actual treestand since early season 2018. A dialed in saddle system lends itself nicely to the mobile hunter setup. Last season I picked up one-stick climbing and rappelling down. With that combination I can hunt out of any tree I want, and I haven't hunted out of the same tree twice since. A saying in the whitetail woods for us mobile hunters is "the first sit is the best sit" and I can definitely attest to that. A few pointers for you guys: 1) Bmac - your saddle, the phantom, has an adjustable bridge. Try shortening your bridge a little, that'll give you enough room to hunt with your tether a little lower. I've found my saddle is much more comfortable when I'm tethered in at about chin level. 2) Don't be afraid to use the tree to your advantage for stability. For those "top shots" I like to put my lead knee into the tree to get three points of contact. It helps steady your form. 3) Learn to really trust your saddle, by rotating your hips and leaning into the shot on those downward angles to maintain a more proper T form, you'll notice your groups will tighten up. 4) Eric - your saddle, the mantis, has two connection points for your leg loops. The higher connection points are useful for walking in, but make it a little less comfortable on those longer sits. Try using the lower connection points before you climb up the tree. It'll keep the saddle from riding up on you. 5) Definitely look into using either a "tree pad" or some kneepads for sitting against the tree. It gets painful after a while. 6) If you're going on longer sits, look into a backband. We're talking La-Z-Boy level of comfort.

Made the switch to the saddle last year. Made a huge difference for me doing whitetail hunting on private and public. I wasn't able to get as much scouting done last year and having the saddle allowed me to make moves quietly from tree to tree and still hunt along the way. Saw the most deer I have ever seen in one season. No booner buck but the sightings kept me going and searching deeper into places I normally would not have gone with a hang on or climber stand. love my Tethrd products. Keep up the great work.

Saddle all day... Safer, and more flexible for taking different shots. Once you really get to trust your equipment, you’ll be shooting from all different types of angles and positions with ease. They actually helped with my fear of heights. I couldn’t get over 10 feet in a Treestand before me knees started knocking. Something about being tied in tightly at all times, makes it to where I can get up to around 20 feet without freaking out

I took a saddle out one time last year with a homemade stand to rest/stand on, and I shot a doe right before last light. I was so excited about that. I'm so excited to expand and grow with the saddle. Theres so many things you can do with this.

I use a DIY saddle rig and it’s so much more comfortable than a treestand. My back and knees kill me in a typical stand but the saddle allows me to shift and stay a bit more active as a whole without spooking deer. Plus I can shift around the tree as the sun moves or around the far side of a tree so an animal cannot see me. So many more advantages to using a saddle than a treestand. Of course if the property is yours and you can keep a stand up all season that’s convenient but being able to pick up and move around freely there’s nothing better. I’m going to try a bit more ground hunting this season using ghilli suits (about as minimal as you can get) for my whitetail season. But being above eye level is typically better.

I live in PA and I always used a climber tree stand, it’s quick and easy to set up in any tree big enough so I’m not limited to just one spot.i personally don’t think a saddle tree stand will be more comfortable than a good climber. But I may be willing to try a saddle out bc it’s smaller and lighter than a climber and I also have the option to be mobile.

I don’t want to make the switch this late in the year, but I may have to check my hunting areas to see what kind of tree options I would have and look into it for next season. For public land where I can’t set up a stand this may be a game changer.

NJ public land whitetail hunter, Ive begun traveling more on out of state trips and man if you are going to be mobile when hunting Whitetails the saddle is way to go. The customization of gear well blows out what you could do with a tree stand. It is a much quieter and lighter method than a tree stand. As well the options of trees are much greater than a hang on tree stand.

Lots of people are going to emulate what they see when watching your vids so please practice and learn how to use this gear properly before recording a vid of it. You are right on by putting in the work before season so that part is awesome. However, in this video you show a lot of unsafe things. You should be showing things like connecting to the tree with the linesman belt before climbing up on the stick as a best practice. Setting your tether and connecting to the bridge before stepping from the stick onto the platform is another best practice. Setting the platform properly as others have commented is important. Keeping your hands away from the prusik unless you are adjusting your tether length is a best practice. Adding a half hitch to the tether below the prusik to help prevent a shock fall if the prusik isn’t dressed properly or you mistakenly grab ahold of it is a best practice. Knowing the correct names of the components helps ensure things will be clear to the viewer. Quite a few unsafe practices shown in this video regardless of whether you were not far off the ground when practicing. Safe practice builds safe and repeatable process while hunting at height which we all know can be a very dangerous activity.

Just a little FYI, you have to came that platform over to lock it into the tree. If you don’t and you put any side pressure it’s very likely to kick out from under you. I noticed BMAC did not. Be safe, thanks.

you should try losing the sticks and use SRT or DRT rope climbing. Saves a lot of weight, faster, quieter. I switched to ropes 2 years ago, sold all my sticks, 3 LWolf Alpha TS platforms. But kept 1 set sticks-stealth stripped, kept LW Self hand climber treestand. Use ropes 90% of the time, but covered by LW options if trees dictate the climb method. Have packed in my Kestrel saddle on hunts in AZ, NM, WA States where I know it will be used. Total saddle system-ropes weight is 6.5lbs.

On the platform you need yo set the strap with the platform base semi vertical. Pull down on the stand then cam the platform down to make it more sturdy. Also to prevent the big swings and feeling like you are going to fall to the side you need to drop your knee into the tree for stability.

Excellent practice! It's so vital to learn how to shoot how you're going to hunt. I don't have a Tethrd system, but I would if I had the money. Yeah, the THP guys turned me on to them. They are light, mobile and you can shoot from much more angles than a treestand. When shooting at odd distances, I've always used my top pin and been consistent. Just my thing. Great video.

I have for whitetail hunting set pins and then just hold low or high on gap. Best setup is 25 yard and 35 yard pin and shoot. I will say for whitetail i like to hit low in practice. Remembering that they normally drop on the shot and this keeps me in vitals normally.

Saddle hunting 100%..... also if your hunting whitetail... aim for that V (or triangle) that bmack was talking about. Whitetail will duck and go fwd at the shot. Aiming for the V you'll have a kill shot every time. If you aim and they don't duck you get a heart shot. If they do you get a lung shot.... you aim high and back you'll miss or liver/gut shot it...

So I mainly white tail hunt, who tend to duck a little on shots outside of 30 yards. So if its a 35 yard shot, I just shoot my 30 yard pin and assume hes going to duck down 1-2 inches and it'll be about right. If he doesn't and I hit 1-3 inches low, doesn't really matter its still double lungs if my shot was true.
