Shooting film has always been something that's eluded me. So many people talk about how enjoyable the process is, and how it can make your photography more intentional and creative. This channel is all about accepting new creating challenges and learning new things, so while in New York City, Kristin and I decided to give it a try. Check it out!

Austin. This is funny to hear you are going "back" to film photography. This brings me back to '80 !!! Actually, i am doing digital photography since around years 2000 i think. Film photography was part of my live before that ! Too cool. BTW, i got my FX9 and have shoot some interviews and "Revue" since. I have to put some on internet to show you. This camera is amazing. And together with my PMW-F5, now it is tricky for me to say which one is the best. I really like my F5, but this FX9 is quite amazing on many aspects... Thanks Patrick! We had so many people stop us and tell us stories about their Canon AE-1. I think those two cameras would be very interesting to compare. The F5 actually has global shutter doesn't it?

Hi Austin. Yes these Canon are part of photography history now. Sony made 2 cameras at the same time: the PMW-F5 and the PMW-F55 (double price of F5) which main differences were color science, global shutter and internal 4K recording for the F55. At the beginning, internal 4K recording was not active to the F5 (only with the extra pricy dock recorder) This came later with a priced upgrade. Patrick

I 100% vibe with what you were saying about why you don't like doing vlogs. I was unsubscribing from videographers who are doing vlogs in other tabs so you are not going to be one of those. Keep up the amazing work

It took me a while to come to this realization. Naturally I want to film when I travel and share it, but I think there are ways to use it as more of a creative medium like this.

There's sure no problem with your personality, but I can understand it being a little nerve wracking putting yourself out there like that! Ironically seeing you shoot film was fascinating and took me way back, ironic because I started following you because I have an FX9 on order and am trying to learn everything about it... And you go and shoot film! I found it fun to see how well film can hold up today.

Totally true! It was a really fun first experience. I just grabbed a Mamiya RZ67 so will be interesting to shoot some medium format and see how that holds up

The color grade on this video is absolutely spectacular!!!! Do you ever go use the a7iii as your b cam? How do you match the footage if you do? As an a7iii user I'd absolutely love to be able to grade like this

Thanks! So the vast majority of this video was shot on the FX9 in S-Log 3 and graded with the "ARRI Phantom LUTs". I have been blown away with the results from this combo as well. I'm still working on matching this camera with the a7iii since the s-log3 on that camera isn't really viable.

Great video, like the style of you just talking about the process. I’m the same way about my channel..I feel that there’s some sort of pressure to be humerus..however I’m a straight shooter and although I can be funny, I just feel uncomfortable doing it on camera at the early stage of my channel. Love the look of this episode..keep it up..!
