Was the primer sanded down before the Orion silver application?
@user-ns8nv9em8w2 ай бұрын
@gpena383: Absolutely. Primer was sanded with 400grit then sprayed a grey epoxy sealer before shooting Orion silver. I wait till the following day to de-nub any imperfections on the silver, shoot a final coat of Orion Silver insuring a smooth finish before spraying 4-5 coats of candy.

How long does a paint job like this usually last with let’s say summers being around 85 degrees minimum and 105 degrees maximum
@user-ns8nv9em8w2 жыл бұрын
@murderous.z33 Any of our paint jobs should last 20 years with no problem, but a quality paint job starts with proper preparation and ends with the owner’s care. I currently have two customer’s motorcycles I painted in 2001 that are still in prestine condition. Sunlight and sand are the most destructive elements that can destroy a finish, so keeping a vehicle in a garage as well as keeping it clean will definitely extend the lifetime of a paint job.

@@user-ns8nv9em8w thank you for the reply! Currently debating having my widebody 350z painted in this color but some people were telling me that candy paints don’t usually last long so thought I’d ask a professional myself 👌🏻

How many coats of the candy did you do and how many oz’s of candy did you use gonna spray my 2500 Chevy this color need a rough estimate of how much to order also which silver base did you use
@user-ns8nv9em8w3 жыл бұрын
Kyle Talcott: your going to need a gallon to a gallon and a half of Silver for your base coat. Metallic s require additional spray passes to eliminate and “tiger striping” you’ll also want to use a grey sealer to get the best coverage of your silver base coat. 4-6 coats of candy will be necessary to achieve the desired color. HOK candy is a 2:1:1 mixing ratio. To be on the safe side and not run out of material, I would purchase 6 quarts of candy apple red. You can return the any unopened product you don’t use back to the paint supply shop. One gallon of UC35 clear coat should allow you to spray 4 coats of clear coat before cutting and buffing.

@user-ns8nv9em8w3 жыл бұрын
Alexis Aceved: at least a gallon of base coat, a gallon of candy top coat and a gallon of clear to complete the job. House of Kolor sells their products in quarts. It’s not a bad idea to purchase an extra quart of base and candy just to be on the safe side. You can always return what you don’t use.

What about the cosmic chrome as base coat and then drop the brandywine? Not base coat but under the base coat.
@user-ns8nv9em8w4 жыл бұрын
Cosmic chrome under any Kandy produces a Christmas bulb light effect. It’s a very unique and attractive combination but in my opinion best used on futuristic canvases. Ferraris, Lambos, super cars etc.I’ll do a video on Cosmic Chrome and Kandy soon.👊🏽😎
@dirtyred93764 жыл бұрын
I'm asking your thoughts on it but go with a gold base
@user-ns8nv9em8w4 жыл бұрын
Dirty Red I personally like the illumination in the sun from silver base coats vs gold base coats. The colors are very similar but gold bases tend to create an orange illumination on convex curves in the sun. I also think choosing the size of metallics in the base coat is just as important as the color you choose and that all depends on what the canvas is. If you like fast effect transitions then a kosmic krome or a fine base metallic is a great option. If you like a sparkle and slower effect transition, then a flake or heavier metallic lures or mesmerizes the eyes. What are you thinking of painting with this color combination?

Hi fantastic video one of the best on KZbin I was wondering is there a paint code for the color or how do I get the exact color when I go to paint shop, also what base coat do I use and is it a hard color to spray I have sprayed a couple of cars in Acrylic before thank you
@user-ns8nv9em8w4 жыл бұрын
Farmer2492 For this project, I used House of Kolor Orion Silver (BC02-base coat) and House of Kolor Kandy Apple Red (UK11-top coat) to achieve this color. Shooting candies takes years to perfect due to having to spray so may wet coats without getting any runs. It all comes down to attention to detail, proper technique, and patience while sticking to your flash times.
