hey good to see u trying out portraits with the mamiya. I do have to say that the scans are a little dull especially the colors. i'm sure this is not how they were scanned in the lab? They seem very desaturated and the light in the video shows a different day, and color temperature. It shows in the video how warm the light that day was.The scans look grey and very cool in temperature. Strange since you were shooting especially in the golden hour? The camera and film do capture this light as is, so I think if you play more with the colors it can make the portraits more strong and come alive. Just my two cents. The shots are bang on though. Disregard this comment if this was your artistic intention. XJ

Your reaction when you realize you've been in landscape orientation the whole time is priceless. This camera tends to play that kind of tricks on you very often. Last time, I inadvertently put the shooting mode to multiple exposure and shot at least 10 images on the same frame. There is a little thingie that changes in the viewfinder when you're in portrait mode.

Was my main camera on jobs before digital. The RZ was a workhorse and went around the world and never failed (unless I screwed up). The only worry was airport x-ray back in the day. I still shoot personal projects with the RZ but I really miss the polaroid. You could make this sweet little polaroid accordion layouts at the end of the shoot day. Alas, no more. If you can afford, get a handgrip and viewfinder. The viewfinder adds weight but for me such an easier time composing. Nice video and nice portrait work.

I use a 645 for jobs. Because Film is still alive and kicking and its more popular than digital is for me.

Most of these film pics are quite graded.
@randallstewart1754 жыл бұрын
Most of the shots are over exposed and many have a blue cast. So are you saying that he intentionally adjusted his scan process to achieve those results? The over-exposures result from his following the advice of WV, who has some sort of quasi-religious devotion to the practice. The blue/cyan color cast? Who knows. One technical explanation could be DIY processing the film in nearly exhausted blix, but ????

i was expecting the photos to be a lot warmer... the light in the video was beautiful and golden but it didnt resonate in the scans?? was it because of the post or the actual scanning process??? the photos were still great tho! love your vids

I bought one about 10 years wanting to shoot like my fav photogs (big names shooting editorials and commercial work) Found it way too heavy and cumbersome as a handheld and ended up selling it. I hope your experience is diff but I found them overrated ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Portra looks kinda boring to my eye. Still, got a couple of 135 rolls that ill be shooting up soon, so maybe that changes my view on it. Kodacolor 200 has a really nice vibe. A bit more poppy, but not too crazy. Also looking forward to test Fuji 400H. Anyways, great video!

What app do you use for the light metering?
@marksummers55044 жыл бұрын
You’re correct. I had a guy pull out a 9mm on me demanding I give him my money. I pulled out the Mamiya RZ67 with the Sekor Z 250mm f4.5. He dropped his gun and hauled ass. My nerves caused me to drop my Mamiya on my foot. They amputated it 3 days later

Think about processing film yourself, not only for the cost saving but more importantly it improves your process and expressive ability.

OK, but its 6X7 ain't much differnce landscape vs protriat and its medium format, you can crop, if you want. Thansk for the vlog, bet next time you won't make that mistake.

@davidb40105 жыл бұрын
Quite the opposite, every frame is underexposed, causing this flat look - C41 films in general look better with a bit of overexposure, i usually rate portra 400 at 320 or even 200 depending on how much contrast i want
