An ND1000 filter reduces light ten stops. So that open up new possibilities with long exposure shots -- even during the bright daylight. Let me show you how!

"....Oh, the canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see, believe me" Swell that the Foma folks responded with ways to salvage your negs . . . but as you point out that solution is also a great deal of additional effort and expense to mitigate their poor quality control. Would seem appropriate to perhaps comp people w/a fresh roll or two but . . . . .perhaps the problem is too big for such a response (?)

Once again, Ari, exquisite images. I am a big fan of ND filters. As an aside, spent many years in the rescue services. Might respectfully suggest wearing a PFD ( or inflatable life vest) when playing with the heavy tripod and Hassy on board. ( or even when not :). Keep up the great work!

Great pics. There used to be kits and directions online for renewing that seal on the 500 system backs, but being careful with extraction of the dark slide helps, too. Your vids are always fun.
@ShootOnFilm
@ShootOnFilm 3 ай бұрын
I've serviced all my backs and changed light seals. That is a reasonably easy fix, but won't change the fact that Hassy dark slides are made to reflect light :-)

Hi Ari, that light leaks peobably coming from a worn out seal trap that lets the light in during the long exposure?

It is always possible -- even though I've changed the light seals of all my backs. ...

Ari, what make is the filter you used. Did you use a 67MM, as the Hasselblad is 63mm. Thinking of using a 67mm filter on my SWC. I saw no light leaks in your images, even though the threads are cone shaped and the 67mm will not screw in all the way. Thanks for your videos. I learn something from each and everyone.
@ShootOnFilm
@ShootOnFilm 2 ай бұрын
I have a 67mm vanilla filter by RISE. It doesn't go in all the way, as the threading angle is slightly different. But it rotates enough for a good lightseal. Gotta be careful, though, not to tighten it up too much! And I always go cheap: www.aliexpress.com/item/32834200452.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.191.1eb51802vQv0AE ;-)

Really like the turning boat photo! I was out today looking for some long exposure possibilities along the Bow and Elbow rivers. The fun was finding two places I'd never been to before. I was using Delta 100 with reciprocity factor of 1.3, and when I finish the roll I'll use Ilfosol 3 to develop.

Running rivers is an awesome long-exposure opportunity. With Ilford Films the reciprocity is almost the same for all their films: 1.3. Makes it easy :-)

I was confronted with the same issue regarding the Fomapan 100. It took round about a week to fully remove the antihalo layer in 97% methylated spirit. I must admit that I use Caffenol CL or Delta for this film for several reasons. And the layer came out evenly bleached but still clearly visible as a reddish stain cover on the film. Funny enough, Foma did not even reply on my support request about four weeks ago. So, it seems they act differently depending on the market influencing potential of the customer.

It's a '60s boat, and its history is not well known. There is no manufacturer's sign there, so I assume it is "self built". That was very common up here some 50 years ago. I have a large cold garage to fit it in for the winter. It stays on the lake the entire summer - covered when not in use.

@jasongold6751 - Ari's said (and shown) it before- two great 'cheap' substitutes for the SWC is either the Lomo LC-A 120 - with a surprisingly good 38mm lens in a cheap plastic body (but about $400) or a Kiev 60 with the Zodiak / Arsat 30mm fisheye. Either is great fun and much cheaper than a Hassy.

Great video again! Beautiful images and great inspiration for summer time with light "too good"... I realized lately your English is a reason I like your channel-much better than many native english speakers and very easy to follow all the technicalities. As for Fomapan 100 in 120- I'm done with it !!! They have had issues with production on and off for years now, no film could be cheap enough to tolerate the strange dots, lines, scratches and changing sensitivity like what I have encountered with Foma 100. The long exposure on your boat makes you look like you are going 160kph! I was very surprised to hear how much reciprocity failure there is between films!! I never really took that into consideration as I normally don’t long exposures….yet. I will have to check the links and see what is written! That tripod looks heavy, but do you tie it down while on the boat for it to be that in focus or the weight is enough? Thank you for a great video again!

I was bit by the reciprocity failure of Fomapan when I took my first ever large format pictures. I had ordered my Graflex Speed Graphic from the USA and some Fomapan 4x5 film from an online store here in Finland and of course the film arrived much earlier than the camera and I wanted to try handling and developing it. So I 3D-printed a very simple pinhole camera and took a few pictures with it. Long story short, I didn't take the reciprocity failure into account as the calculated exposure time was "only" something like 10 seconds and I stupidly thought it wouldn't matter. Result: very underexposed negatives. The situation was made worse by the fact that Foma 100 is really more like 150 or 200 which I also didn't know at the time. I was still able to scan the negatives but they were extremely thin.
I purchased a 1930s German large-format camera: Mentor Studio Reflex. And then I fixed it!
