Shooting the Sig/Sauer ssg3000

I own a SSG3000 of my own. Perfect with scope Swarowsky PV6-24x50. With Sierra Matchking HPBT 168gr handloaded the 5 shot groups are within 5 mm (0,2 inch) at 100m (110 yards). BUT - there's always one round a little bit outside. The other 4 go through one single hole - just little scratches from the perfect circle. I made a joke with the guys of SAUER at the munich exhibition Jagen&Fischen (hunting&fishing) by complaining my SSG shoots too bad. After 30 min of talking, calling the development center, finally the product manager asked how bad is acually shoots. He laughed: "We didn't know our rifles can shoot so extreme precise."

Thai Tan, yes, heat build up in a barrel can effect accuracy. Heavy barrels take longer to heat up and they are stiffer than say a sporter barrel so the heat issue is not as noticeable. A free floating barrel can help a great deal as well. We use 3 shots as oppose to 5 for the sake of time and expense. Good questions, thanks for the inquiry.

Yurchik, you are right, the MVP is a blast to shoot and shoots well too, but if you like really small groups on paper, the Sig is a hoot.

Thanks. It's funny because when you said that that this is the most enjoyable rifle you've fired, in my head I thought if it would be more enjoyable than the MVP. :) MVP is my favorite bolt action to shoot.

I think there are more options available for the Remington than the Sig. However, for the money you'd be hard pressed to find a more accurate rifle than this ssg 3000. It has a barrel clamp receiver that looks like its made for switching out barrels. To start with a basic Remmy and turn it into something like this Sig is going to cost a chunk of change. My vote went to the sig.

Corndog, all loads were home grown. With ammo in such short supply, we don't want to take ammo away from our customers. No special attention was given to the load either however, since recording that video, I have tweaked a few loads and wow! In the Nikon m-308 video, we shot a 1.1" group at 500 yards.

Benchmark barrels now has barrel extensions. If you want another caliber like say 6.5 Creedmoor or similar you can now have a more accurate round than just the .308.

To all you (exsperts) you can now see how much practice People need to hit targets on lange range or short range with a handgun to. You have to practice evry time you have at least 10000rounds with the weapons you gonna use in life. This video prove IT becsuse sig 3000 on of the best snipers out there in my opinion. And IT s hard to get good im not good dont have the right places to practice becsuse live in Norway but if lived in us i had practice almost evry Day at a good range and hell yhea i had ownd a sig 3000! But if a top ten firearms list to own im a cz man but love sig and many other brands to. And many i havet tryed i want to trye on my bucketlist but not a clock fan maybe strange but dont like em so much rather own way more other brands. Could maybe ownd a clock 17 or 19 if got IT for FREE but never gonna buy one but BACK to point rember practice and respect your weapons not a toy. And IT s not like a action movie where it loocks easy to shoot lol 😂 ok you can buy a dobbel barrel shoot gun and use bird s shoots at 10-15 yards the you hit like in the movies but if relly wanna trust you life to you weapons practice clean em take em apart learn and respekt IT and you wil not regret if the Day should Come. Another good tip train a lot dry to draw your firearms to good position in different spots to. So IT feel like a part of your body and remeber trye have fun to so you practice dont get boring for if you take Long breaks you wil be not that good you was only 6 mouths earlyer i think if you are a Lucky man/woman that still good after half year away from shooting hey you Lucky brat 😂dam i envy us when IT Come to target practice and firearms laws if you use firearms to the right things not a crazy person

the mag is made for 308 and 6.5x55 thats why it is so big for the 308 :)

The SSG3000 is a long action and magazine would accommodate a 30-06 but they chambered it for a 308, so why make not make it a short action right? I don't have an answer. One could have the barrel rechambered to a 30-06 but mine is so accurate, I wouldn't risk losing that accuracy for a lousy 100fps. I do like that I have plenty of room in the mag to seat VLD bullets out as far as the chamber allows thus giving me more powder capacity which in turn gives me 2830fps with a 168gr. Amax which is almost what a 30-06 would give me anyways.

the mag is made fore sig sauer ssg3000 and sig sauer 200STR and the 200str is in 6.5x55 thats why it is so big fore 308

Wind does not effect the bullet at 100yds. Wind does effect the shooter, though. You really do not need to read the winds at 100yds, unless you are in a typhoon or something. The .308 is a big enough bullet that the wind will not do anything to it at 100 yds.

The 200str is the same gun but with a wood stock. very common i sweden for taget shooting. But almost all of them are in 6.5x55swedish and they are real shooters all of them.

Congrats on the purchase. I am running the Nikon M-308 4x16. Not a fan of the BDC but the scope adjustments have proven to be very reliable and consistent. For rings I'm using Burris 1" med. signature zee rings with +20/-20 inserts in the back ring. This gives me about 30MOA adjustment in the scope. I like the Vortex PST too but the Nikon has stiffer springs in the turret adj. and is not as easy to knock off.

gusplaer, this gun shoots everything fairly well but it really like 168 SMK with a dose of IMR4064. With this rifle you can seat your bullets out. I seat the 168 matchkings to 2.870

Would this setup be overkill to use as a hunting rifle?

You could hunt with this rifle but, its heavy and not well adapted to off hand shooting. If it was the only rifle I had, I would hunt with it but since its not, I use it mainly for varmints and targets.

How do you think a hepherd scope would do on this rifle?

My experience with shepherd scopes is limited. Used one about 15 years ago. Eye relief was short and I thought it wasn't as bright as it should be. The system is good and there are a lot of good reviews on the Shepherd but there are some bad as well. One of my favorite etched reticle scopes is the Zeiss conquest with the Z600 or Z800 reticle or the Z1000 with is set-up for the 308.

In answer to your other question, yes you can range with the Zeiss and your not limited to just deer or any one size target. You also have windage hold off''s as well. Check out Zeiss website and look over the "rapid Z" reticle info.

Z Loney IMO nearly every hunting rifle could do sub moa .... and if i look at the precision at 500yards ......i think you cant blame the rifle for that groups!
