As for a spin launch and humans, I've always been fascinated by an idea presented in a sci-fi story, where space ships were launched from airless colonies effectively by giant rail guns, so the ship's rocket propellant usage was minimized. The passengers were protected from the hundreds of g's of acceleration by being immersed in a tank of water with a breathing device during the launch. (Later, that water would be purified and used as the recyclable water supply, then used for passengers again at a catch decelerator -- essentially a rail gun in reverse.) I'm not sure how much compressive pressure there would be, but it seems like this could work up to a point.

I've never head of this submergence idea before, but (and correct me if I am wrong) wouldn't the water pressure just increase and still transfer the force onto the body? I actually will be doing a follow up video at some point in regards to the idea of mass drivers which is similar to this system so stay turned for that!

so would those ever be used to compensate for the kessler syndrome going totally exponential?

It could, but it would depend on if the 'round' fired is the entire satellite or if it is encased in something and how large that encasement is.

Has anyone tried a railgun?

Since railguns are a new technology, it hasn't been perfected enough to act as a space launch system. The main issue they have is that the railgun's barrel deforms after use and only a few shots can be fired per barrel due to that. I think you will probably see railguns used to deliver small satellites in the future once the technology has been perfected.

@@wms-h2v I'm thinking more along the lines of a catapult like there is on the USS Ford.

@@wms-h2v Even if an electromagnetic launch system might not be able to get something into orbit, if could remove the need for such powerful & large rocket engines.

@@CowboyTech So that's more in line with the idea of something called a Mass Driver which is that idea but the catapult is at least a mile long and is set at an inclined angle. I'll be doing a video on that at some point!
