the extreme red cast of the cross processed film is definitely caused by improper scanning (the scanner compensated for an orange mask, which is not there). i took a screen cap of the video at 5:44, inverted it and adjusted black and white point and then the colors looked like regular cross-processed images.
@FrankWalsh7 жыл бұрын
Good point. Regular "color negative" setting on a flatbed will shift the colors dramatically since the base film is a different color. Nevertheless I thought the "red sky building" shot was interesting graphically.

I recently started shooting and developing E6 and it's pretty amazing! I have a freezer full of expired Ektachrome, Fuji, Agfa etc. I only would advise people avoid shooting portraits with Velvia, of course you can color correct anything but what's the point of using this film then?
@leonbrooke55875 жыл бұрын
Great colours from the Velvia - I gotta get some to shoot on my 6x7 camera too. Not too wild about it for portraits, it made the skin look rather flushed, but everything else looked amazing

I really miss Kodachrome. When it was discontinued, National Geographic magazine started accepting Velvia slides. They've finally given up the battle and are now accepting digital. Kodachrome, you had to slightly underexpose to saturate. With Velvia, erring slightly towards overexposure seems better.

Sweet channel homie! Got a solution for you on that crazy red color, though I don't mind it here at all. Take the scanned files they sent you into light room and play with the temp/ color shift aggressively. For this start as far green and blue as you can get, and at a certain point the colors will flip and get aggressively some other color. Find that point, nearby is a Goldielocks zone where the colors normalize. Grade to taste and that's how you get the milder cross process look. I get rolls of electric purple negatives all the time, the positive is xbox green and crunchy, and by the time I'm done the colors are normal but nuanced in a way you won't get shooting it straight.

The Provia is a much better bet if you're gonna cross process. It has a fairly strong green tint, but nowhere near as strong as the red tint on the Velvia. I've gotten some good results with cross processed Provia, but it needs to be well lit unless you want it all green.

I know when I print cross-processed Fuji slide film you have to rebalance the color by adding a fair amount of blue to it, you should be able to to the same by adjusting the color balance of your scan (or shoot a grey card and use that for your scan balance). When you have the head set just right for printing Fuji, it will print with a touch of Cyan and reddish orange, and yellow will pop. I can't remember if it's shooting the film over or under by a half stop and push process the film the same amount. I think you should try some more with the cross processing, it can come out with a beautiful look it think you'll love, it will match your look.

Reminds me of the time when I toured the australian desert as an exchange student down there. I took lots of slides with my mechanical Yashika SLR using a polarizing filter. The colors and contrasts were just amazing. But I am wondering: are ever going to switch to digital?
@Frisenette7 жыл бұрын
Try Velvia 50 too. Slide does take a bit more care, but as long as you use a light meter and stick to it you should be. I don't find it prohibitive at all.

@BrettFosterDotNet7 жыл бұрын
Hey George. Nice Xtreeme Squat at the beginning!! lol I hate to tell you this but your lab lied to you. I have shot, developed and printed maybe hundreds of cross processed rolls and I can tell you that you can balance out the results a lot more than they did on the very red images. If I were you I would take them back and get ask them to try again. They should come out more like the shot you took of your model. From memory shooting a stop or so under exposed generally made for better results as well for some reason. The results will, however, always be probably more saturated that what you are looking for.
