Shooting with one eye open...Roger Pace..."The Ancient Shotgunner"

In this video we watch Rino Rossi, who recently won the State Single Barrel Championship. He shoots with one eye closed. We watch him shoot and get an insight into what a one eyed shooter sees. Does he always see the barrels or the front bead?. For the final shot, we had a power failure, and so the clay did not come out of the trap house. I shoot with one eye too . But for me, it works best if I never reference the beads , not even when I shoulder the gun… I skip the step about checking bead alignment . When I’m shooting my best, I am so focused on the clay, I do not see the barrel. I used to check bead alignment before calling, and I found my eyes being drawn to the barrel during the shot . Ringo is much more accomplished than I. But his method does not work as well for me . This crazy game is so challenging because it seems like one needs to search for what style works best for them . I see two barrels with both eyes open too I find closing my left eye holds you to a disadvantage because the left peripheral vision is significantly impacted, what I do which is nothing new to most shooters is use a small frosted dot on my glasses lense in the right spot. It let's light in but It blocks the sight picture of 2 barrels without impacting the left eye peripheral vision, which in my opinion you need, especially if you are shooting universal trench or normal trench where extreme left and right targets rip by and depth perception is important.

@Roger Pace you can buy the dots from bunnings in a roll of like 25, they are in the tint isle. The dots are 1 inch in diameter but you the cut diameter down to the bare minimum so as to not cover any more vision than necessary.

Does anyone beside me do this... I release the target with booth eyes open. Just before I pull the trigger I close one eye. My hits seem to be more accurate.

That is how I did it for years until they convinced me to switch to left hand with two eye open. Now I can shoot left and right hand two eyes open.

Yes they are prescription sunglasses. they were made for Rino by a local optometrist here in Australia. You can clip on any colour lens you want to the prescription lenses. Thank you for watching ...much appreciated...stay well !!!

I have monocular vision, so I have peripheral vision in both eyes but can only see focus out of one at a time. I need to shoot with one eye closed due to this. My eyes will switch depending on which has the easiest line of view. I also have no depth perception because of this. My brain has learned through time so I can tell distance but still not the same as traditional depth perception.

ive tried multiple times to shoot with both eyes open. since Im cross eye dominant, I have never been able to make it work. I always close my left eye.
