Absolutely stupid bonehead decision for GM to cancel these. My father has a 2012, we've had it for over ten years, and it's a great car! I do find it kind of strange though that in the 2012, there is no "PRND21" lettering on the center console and instead it is in the digital dashboard display. Thanks for the video Zack!

It’s actually “PRNDL” with 2012-2013s. Those were the years of the 3.6L LFX/6-speed automatic W-bodies. You’re probably thinking of 2006-2011 with a 4-speed (PRND321). No matter if you got the SS model’s LS4, or the V6s, they were all 4-speeds.

These eras of impalas were really comfortable and roomy. It drove smoothly, and it was like GMs version of the Crown Vic. Turns were good. Seats were comfy and very subtle interior. The exterior, I didn't mind the look. And that is saying something because the 90s and 2000s had car body shapes that were quite... Something to say the least😅. But this impala, it was a downright iconic early 2000s car - to me at least. They made up some of the Toronto Taxi fleets, and I always was happy when we got into one. Whenever i see one now, the nostalgia hits me. Never went into one, but the late 90s and early 2000s sunfires were very nostalgic to me, too, because I saw them so often. Loved these era of impalas so much.

So some more history on the car it belonged to our Uncle for the 300,000 miles of Ownership. He bought the car brand new in Iowa back in 2002 and was his daily driver for work, errands, general stuff like that. Now the engine and transmission may be reliable but everything else is typical GM quality and so he has had many different repairs over the life of the car. In fact at several points he thought about getting rid of the car when he had to fix something but it was usually never anything that broke that bank per se just nickle and dimed him. And so he kept the car going but he did drive it less and less over the last few years he owned it given he had other stuff to drive among ither issues with the car. We got it only within the last year really and my brother put quite a bit of work into making the car safe to drive again. And even though its no race car that 3.8L gives plenty of power to make it feel great to drive.

My uncle has often wondered if it was worth it but he regardless he kept the car for 20 years. Glad your Car has held up as well.

These were always one of my favorites. But I found many Buick LeSabres and Park Avenues when I’d look and very few Impalas. We owned 3 Park Avenues and 4 LeSabres-all great cars. My favorite and longest lasting was a 93 Park Avenue Ultra. That car just ran and ran! At one point I was driving it 1200 miles a week! Finally, at about 190,000 miles, something stopped it from running. It would start and stall within seconds. A total of a team of mechanics, 7 working as a team, went through everything. They were using internet sites and GM but sadly it was an unfixable anomaly. I traded the car in and the next morning it wouldn’t run. The dealer went through it, couldn’t fix it and sold it as is to someone. Well, apparently that customer got very angry the next morning when, even though it was told him what the issues were, he had it towed back to the dealer and got a refund! I saw that car in a field of overgrown weeds not far from the dealer months later.

Also had the most comfortable bench seat along with the column shifter. I had the car for about 2 weeks and enjoyed it so much!

I had two of these Impalas. One was a 2003 LS with the 3.8 V-6, and a 2005 with the 3.4 V-6. Both were serviced regularly, and the factory recommended maintence was done on time. Both were the worst cars ever, and neither made it to 300,000 miles. Both needed new transmisdions by 70,000 miles. Both needed intake gaskets, and then after that was done the head gaskets started leaking. Both needed the top end engine resealed. Both needed ABS Traction control modules by 65,000 miles. Both had the infamous rack and pinion steering gear leaks every 20,000 miles. The rack and pinion should be carried in the trunk for replacement. One had the welds crack on the front end sub frame because they were bad from the factory. The cracked sub frame caused the motor and transmission to shift while driving, and GM knew there was a problem with some of them. They covered the weld cracks up with a silent recall, and paid for the repairs. Then there was the trunk release module that failed on both. The replacement trunk module said 'Made in China' on it. The hub bearings kept going, and set off the traction control module light on the dash. One developed a clogged catalytic converter by 47,000 miles, and it robbed you of the power from the engine. One kept having mass air flow sensor problems. My 2006 Ford beats these two Impalas for reliability 100 times over. I finally had enough with both Impalas, and sold them. I owned eight different Chevrolets in my lifetime, and the two Impalas were the worst ones ever.

Of course I'm biased that the Regal GS is the best of the bunch since I own one, but the supercharged '04 Impala SS is the same chassis - see if you can find one of those to review! I think the Buick interior might be the most timeless of the W-bodies. The Chevy switchgear is kind of a weird parts bin combination of smooth rounded buttons and edgy square buttons. Got to love that funky radio faceplate with rounded corners to make installing an aftermarket unit more difficult! You call the styling "macaroni", a friend of mine calls it the "dork era" of automotive styling. To me they're the cars I grew up in and around. This spec with these wheels is probably one of the best looking W-Impalas in my opinion. Shame about the Upper Midwest rust!

@@U.S.S.SOUTHSIDE I was a mechanic in Western NY for 30 years. I'm no stranger to the science of it. I however have never traveled a lot. I guess it's more about wanting to know what the conditions are like in each locale. Like my sisters 65 Jeep came from Colorado. Plenty of snow. Still rust free. Here in NY a 5 year old car starts to become almost unrepairable because of rust to brake and suspension components. I'd like to have a better understanding of how rust/corrosion effects cars in each state.

@@Seven_Actual Maybe it's the type of road salt? Maybe its because in Illinois remote locales use sand instead? Maybe it's the type of metal in the car? And maybe the owner washes the undercarriage weekly as we should??

Not really what I was getting at. I know the why and what. I wanna learn the where. If he reviews a car that's rusted take 10 seconds to state why. Is it specific to an unkept vehicle? Bad design/poor materials? Or is it the norm for vehicles of the age in that locale.

FR, so many lights. Faulty sensors i bet
@sportyhuntley89142 ай бұрын
@@Ebzinger02 Not really. Just the check engine light for a bad o2 sensor & the faulty traction control throws the ABS light & Traction light. I have sticky notes covering them because those warning lights stay at full brightness not matter how dim you set the guages & they're too bright at night. Otherwise extremely solid car. I'm still suprised my transmission hasn't taken a dump!

Yes, humans knew how to make good cars in earlier times. Better than today in fact. Progress is not guaranteed with the future.

not bad just need maintaince , intake manifold is common to leak. but can as well on 3.8
@barrya.621228 күн бұрын
Yes they last a long time as well....underpowered for a car this size and as other poster mentioned they needed the intake gasket replaced and replace GM dexcool with Prestone extended life coolant. Replacing the intake gasket isn't a very intensive or expensive job and G.M. had an improved replacement gasket.

This car was good but the Malibu of the same era was terrible. Regardless. GM has come a long way and is currently the best in performance and styling as far as American car companies go. It would be nice to see the Impala make a comeback with that being said.

The Malibu had some issues but you still see them on the road and I got 327k out of a 97 so they could last if you took care of them and were lucky. My sister had a 2010 she didn't even get 160k until something went wrong with the timing and destroyed itself.

Why do you drive with the seat reclined so that you're trying to steer from the back seat? It looks silly and not very safe.
