Zack, thank you again for the wonderful review of my Hyundai. I would like to add some more information about it and my history with it. The steering wheel has a telescopic column as well as tilt. The gauge with fuel range can be changed by tapping the "Trip" button - it will cycle through trip odometer, miles to empty, average speed, and average miles per gallon. The rear seat folds forward 60/40, and like you mentioned, the interior capacity is enormous. I have photos of the Covercraft car cover on the car on the car's Instagram which can be found by searching 2012 Hyundai Touring (putting the link apparently violates YT rules). My Touring has served faithfully not just in commuting to work but has been excellent for vacation traveling from Virginia to the Adirondacks, to Vermont, and a couple of Great American Road Trips New Jersey to the the Rocky Mountain states. When the finance officer was doing the paperwork with me when I purchased the car, he asked "how long do you expect to keep the car?" When I replied "forever" he chuckled and sort of smirked. I expect to be putting QQ (historic vehicle) plates on the car in twelve and a half years.

I love the fact youre willing to do more normal trim consumer focused models. Most people arent buying the highest spec'd version. Sometimes its nice to see the standard offering. Thank you!

I miss the days when we had a group of wagons like these. Matrix/Vibe, Suzuki Aerio, Kia Rondo, Mitsubishi Lancer wagon, Jetta wagon, Focus wagon... I didnt have a need for one then, but now with a kid, pretty much the only option is to get a crossover like everyone else.

I have a hard time giving mine up. 194K and all the small stuff is starting to go but no other small wagon with thus much space. The 5 speed is a must on this car.

When I purchased the car manual versions were nowhere to be found in any nearby inventory. Not having a manual is my only regret. I have considered a manual swap, but maybe in another life.

@@duffontherun381 I think the 3.5 v6 is called the sigma engine which is based on mitsubishi engines and it’s far away from being reliable.

Zack, A neighbour has two of these in their garage. We had a number of small, highly function wagons to choose from when the Elantra Touring was on sale and now we have......... NONE. 🤨

I've owned one since new in 2011. It got us by for years and years as a daily driver, but now it's the car my daughter takes to college. It really never has let us down other than having transmission issues at under 40k miles. Dealer swapped in a new transmission under warranty and no problems with about 150k on the clock. It's not super fast, but it has a stiff sporty suspension that is fun to drive on curvy roads. Probably the best thing about it is the cargo space. No lie, this car has more cargo room than many full sized SUVs. We were give a Kia Soul as a loner when this was in the shop. What a piece of garbage the Soul was compared to our Touring. Best $15K I ever spent. Yeah, 15K, sounds like a pipe dream now right?

In Europe these are known as i30 Cw. My grandparents had a hatch model and apart from the clutch it proved to be pretty reliable. It made about 250k and was near to need a 3rd clutch.

This one is basically an older Elantra hatchback. Still having a timing belt is a weak point for a beater.

Glad to see this car getting some love. My first car was a 2012 Elantra Touring SE with the manual transmission. Calling it a great car wouldn't be entirely honest; I got it with ~65k on the clock and in the three years I had it the driver's side window motor assembly died twice, the clutch went out, and the TPMS computer went out. Despite all that, though, I can't help but love this car; mine was about as barebones as it comes (no buttons on the wheel at all) but the a/c blew cold and it had more than enough room for me to do everything I needed to. With the back seats folded down there was more room in the back than most mid-size pickups have in the bed. Because of my experience with that car I refuse to ever purchase another Hyundai product for the rest of my life, but for what it was at that point in my life it did the job, which is all anyone can really ask of a car like this.

Thanks again for another great view. while it isn't my car, I use it pretty frequently to go to the junkyards to get Saturn parts, which a hood can fit inside pretty nicely.

Ridiculously practical and comfortable looking car. Would be cool if they made a more rugged version with 4wd, high clearance and a strong diesel motor so it could be used as a work car, that would be very cool.

I had a 2010 Elantra Touring SE Manual. It wasn't a bad car, but the engagement point on the clutch pedal was really, really high. You couldn't pivot your foot on the heel, so you had you move your whole leg to use the clutch. It started causing me knee issues after just a few months, so I only owned that one a short time. A few years later, I had a 2014 Ford Focus SE Manual Hatchback. That car was much less bothersome to my knee, but the seat hurt my back. Focus was a much more fun, engaging car. Early 2010s Hyundais were still pretty boring to drive. In between those, I had a 2012 Mazda3 Skyactiv Hatch with an automatic, but Mazda at least orients the up/down shift direction of the manual mode correctly (down=forward, up=rearward). That Mazda was by far the best built car and most button down, but the Focus felt more playful and actually had a fair bit of oversteer which was interesting in a FWD car.

As someone who owned three different Hyundai vehicles in the past, I have to agree that their vehicles are usually comfortable and functional. Their biggest problem is quality.

About 10 years ago, I was comparing this heavily against the Kia Rondo of the same era. Although I likeed the Hyundai, I went with the Kia. Both are awesome in my opinion, and 10 years/140k miles on the Rondo. No complaints. She purrrs like a kitten . Footnote - I didn't realize how convenient that third row is on the Kia Rondo. It's small and made for hobbits but works well for small children in a pinch.

The redesigned for 2011 Elantra received the shitty new 1.8L... The "Elantra Touring" retained the older and much more reliable 2.0 thankfully.
@RoccoReviews
@RoccoReviews Ай бұрын
@TinkeringPaul yeah that 1.8 is not great. Except for that one with 1 million miles somewhere, idk what's the secret with that one. The reason the Touring kept the 2.0 engine was because it was still on the old platform, which feels a little old now but it was quite a bit more reliable than the newer body style, as much as I really like that newer body style from 2011.

Kinda close, but not really. The Touring is definitely more fun to drive. The Rondo was a bit bigger and used the less reliable 2.4L engine.
