Why do rappers have to be bout that life to rap about it? Movie stars like Sylvester Stallone never went to Vietnam or boxed for real, but he's applauded. A rap star is an entertainer , his or her job is to make you bop your head and nothing more.

It’s the nature of the beast if you stop to think about where rapping (even the terminology itself comes from). Generations past referred to conversations as rapping, and the music being named rap is not a coincidence. Music programs at schools et al were cut severely around the inception of the genre, and they made do with what they had (this is a VERY abridged version). As far as movie stars go, they are normally called ACTORS, and they do just that… For the record, it’s not just rap music that people expect you to be about what you talk about (the genre ‘hardcore’ comes to mind immediately). Hope that helps.

Because when they turn the cameras off, they don’t return to the jungles of Vietnam amongst the armed VietCong or go train at the gym with Rocky across the shorts. Rappers (on the come up) go back to the hood to live (and get tried).

Yeah beyond overkill. The publicity at the time unfortunately being at a top national radio station, the source, means the courts/city at that time wanted to set an example. Plus the tops at the radio station knew it would be indirectly guarding the future of artists to state they want no violence on their property. Because they are trying to work with artists not be involved in their beefs/drama so don't bring that shit here in so many words. I remember this like it was yesterday. 🙏 Welcome Home to man!
