We had about a dozen cup hooks to install on a sign today, but it was killing my fingers. This little shop hack will show you how to use a plain old socket wrench to make cup hook installation much easier and much less painful on the digits! :)

I thought of putting a hook bolt in a cordless screwdriver to drive a eye bolt, and visa-versa, felt it was clever, shared it, and everyone said that the threads would ruin the chuck, the proper tool was plastic. Plastic?! I need to drive four anchors about a foot in the ground for my Harbor Freight portable garage. I think that I will break the metal hook out of a cheap hanger and put that in my drill. I don't have any idea what size socket would fit those big ground bolts! :)

Thank you 😊 I'm doing these hooks in drywall though don't know if it makes a difference but will try
@AppleValleyFarmGA
@AppleValleyFarmGA 2 жыл бұрын
Drywall is definitely a problem when it comes to anchor strength. If you put the hook into the drywall, only, chances are, it won't stay. Even if you don't put a load on it. You'll need to either have a hook with a screw long enough to go through the drywall and into a framing component OR find a drywall insert that you can screw into. Hard to describe here, but anyone at the Pro Desk at a Home Depot should be able to help you. Good luck! And thanks for commenting!

Hi, i know it probably late to ask the question since this video is 4-5years a go, but i have tooooo, and my question , can i use this type of hook screw on cement / concrete house wall? I'll be thankful if you can tell me step by step, Tq sir😁😁😁😁😅
@AppleValleyFarmGA
@AppleValleyFarmGA 3 жыл бұрын
It's never too late to ask. :) But...I honestly don't know. If I had to guess though, I'd say "no". IMO these hooks in the video are probably designed for wood applications. But I'm sure you could find a specialty hook for cement and concrete. I'd probably start looking on Amazon. Not sure if that helps, but thanks for asking! Let me know how your search goes.

what size drill bit do you to start
@AppleValleyFarmGA
@AppleValleyFarmGA 3 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, I used a 2mm bit. You'll want to double check though, just to be safe. In case you aren't aware, the gauge of the hook itself, it the same through the threaded part as well. I say that because it's easier on the eye to check your bit agaist the unthreaded part of the hook. Compare the two and get a bit that is as cose to that gauge as possible, then you should be fine. The threads will extend out beyond the diameter of the bit/hole to (obviously) bite into the surrounding wood. Hope that helps and thanks for the question!

Waste of time. Half way through and still hasn't even begun the project. Then, what most people are looking for is what to do about pilot holes before screwing them in??? Already done beforehand so no instruction on that, the critical part. This is all about how I stuck a cup hook in a tool and used it to turn the hooks in so I don't hurt my hand.
