Can you do a video about shopping at stores that carry petite sizes. I can find dresses and skirts in miss sizes but not in petite. I find more clothing in casual styles for petites. Can't we look good in nice clothes? Thank you.

I shop where ‘tall’ sizing is easily available and moderately priced. Gap is excellent 👍🏻👍🏻

I always feel a little embarrassed when I buy something at Talbots, but recently they did something no store ever did for me - gave me the dream trench coat. I am short and thick. I can’t wear those double-breasted styles. I also don’t look good in beige. Talbots provided me with a single-breasted, petite length trench in a lovely shade of blue. It was a dream find! Young people compliment on me. The problem with J. Crew, Boden, and Anthropologie is their petite offerings are far more limited. Often they only offer petite pants and skirts. Sezanne has no petites at all. Also, as I am thick and busty, I often struggle to find necklines that flatter me in those stores and there are also a lot of unflattering chunky knits and petite-hating skirt hemlines at Sezanne. I guess what I am saying is if you have fit problems - particularly if you have more than one fit issue, your options are really limited.
@jcgnbd74102 ай бұрын
I love how everyone’s petites only go to Large or XL, i am too busty for XL but need the petite length in tops or they all look like too much fabric. So confusing!
@franceswray83402 ай бұрын
I entirely agree, I am 4’ 10” and wear a 16wp (necessary because of broad shoulders, full bust). Talbots is literally the ONLY store where I can find clothes that fit. It is really depressing to be constantly told that there are more stylish options out there, because this often isn’t the case when you fall outside of mainstream sizes.

For UK residents, I would recommend Marks & Spencer's, who have improved so much in recent years and also have great underwear, all reasonably priced, Zara, Massimo Dutti and Mango. Uniqlo has been disappointing recently imo but great for thermals. Primark is fast fashion (but so are H&M, Marks & Spencer's and virtually every store on the high street), they have great scarves this year and their Rita Ora range is surprisingly good, also great for basic t-shirts, long-sleeve t-shirts, etc. H&M has become very cheap and nasty imo, I buy there with caution. I occasionally buy from Cos, but their clothes are too oversize, boxy and frumpy 99% of the times. I have bought some great cardigans from Whistles.

Blair Fashions, Alfred Dunner and most of QVC = “old lady clothes” I wholeheartedly agree that many older women want to look ageless and timeless, not look like an “old lady” or a “mutton dressed as lamb” (even if you have the figure to wear the clothing). A number of stores that you mentioned are great options. Another great option for the “classic preppy style” that is ageless is Banana Republic.
@shogo89952 ай бұрын
My taste runs to classic/preppy/ French street casual. My go to is J Crew and J Crew Outlet for just about everything. Same for Boden. Talbots is great for basics like bi-stretch dress pants and nice fitting tees, although their colors never change much and their prints look fuddy-duddy. Anthropology is great for a statement tee, sweater with detail or a unique clutch. Loft for modern casual in almost everything, Ann Taylor for things like blazers and suiting that are machine washable. Nordstrom is no longer petite friendly in the stores, but great for shoes and accessories. I find J Jill too boho, “likes to throw pottery” for me; and for some reason Chico’s weird vanity sizing just offends me and I won’t even go into their store. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Banana Republic, unless I missed it. This was a great video and I found your comments spot on. Agree with your other commenter that if her kids think she’s looking more stylish, it’s probably thanks to you.

FANTASTIC VIDEO-why hasn't someone done this before?? Please add Land's End (a good source for basics for me but "meh" otherwise), Chadwick's, LL Bean, and Kohl's to the list of stores/brands to avoid. I have found some of the brands you mentioned worth a look but that can take time I don't always have. I can find one item a season at JCPenney but their Liz Claiborne line has really tanked, imo. I think they must own Alfred Dunner because there is always a HUGE portion of my local store devoted to that line! Really a big fan of your posts-keep it up and thanks so much!

I used to shop INC petites alot, but have gotten away from that brand in recent years . I now shop Madewell, Anthropology ( my fav), Quince. I have purchased some pieces from Biden this past summer. I have branched out quite a bit lately. I just bought two really cute jackets from Zara. Lots of options for shopping!
@foxycinquantuno33612 ай бұрын
Yes, good advice. I will shop anywhere if I find a good item, and Chico's works for some things like tanks. I don't think I've ever bought a bad tank from them. Eileen Fisher is good for some basics and good quality, like the tees are pretty indestructible and don't lose their shape, a cropped cardigan or linen pants work well. I USED to like Soft Surroundings when skinny bottoms and tunics were popular, but that's all they still have many years later. All of their tops are tunics! They just do not update their silhouettes at ALL, and as a person with a long torso and short legs, nothing there really works for me. For preppy things, Ralph Lauren, hands down. Yes, they have a lot of the same stuff year over year, but they have cropped oxfords and fresh styles as well, and preppy things really don't date as badly anyway.

I think its most important to know what colors and styles look best for your own skin tone and body shape. Sometimes you can find an item that works perfectly in any given store if you know what is best for you. For instance, I am a soft summer, so I can quickly scan a store for those muted colors and then hone in on whether the shape/style will be appropriate.

The trick to wearing EF which took me about a year to figure out: 1) avoid head to toe EF looks unless they are not all baggy 2)pair with more fitted pieces. The brands she lists are great options such as boden, amour vert, or everlane. 3) get items tailored. Baggy messes in beautiful colors are fixed! 4) size down, but you still may need to get items tailored.5) don't copy looks from their catalog. 6) thrift ef>new j jill. The only thing with ef that i cannot troubleshoot is to how to style a waterfall cardigan to make it look less like a waterfall. I cannot bear to part with it because the quality is impeccable.
@NadaManley2 ай бұрын
Great tips! I agree with all of these. The pieces work much better when balanced with fitted pieces. You can try hemming, tying, or styling the waterfall cardigans with a more fitted top and jeans. They can be hard to style

@creative1able2 ай бұрын
I’m 5’4.5”. Yes, .5. For pants and jeans, I’ve been buying them mostly from…Old Navy. They have petite sizes in all styles. I’ve heard compliments on my dark wash, high-waist flare jeans. They have a wiiiide selection of styles. If delivered, can return them to the store. They will also exchange delivered items by USPS free of charge. Their pants and jeans, I feel, are well-made and durable. Not everything at Old Navy is, but I’ve never bought pants or jeans that weren’t quality, imo. After wearing them a while, you don’t want them any more, you’re not out big bucks. I really love the wide leg jeans. Old Navy is a Gap company.

It's always more challenging if you're a specialty size. Plus, petites or plus petites. There are plenty of brands I'd love to purchase from but they often only go to a sz 14 or 16 or S-XL. Even the stores like Old Navy that do have extended sizing, it will not be in store & you must order online. I loved Anthropology but it was hard even finding a 14 when I last visited their brick & mortar store. One thing I am beyond tired of in women's clothing is 3/4 sleeves & elbow length sleeves. Talk about matronly.

The only item that I find made well at BR is denim and some khaki bottoms. They are disappointing me constantly. I find flimsy fabric and seams poorly sewn. Also, Ann Taylor is the same. When I walked in last week it all screamed “look at me, I’m old”. lol

At a size 14, fit is most important…….i tried on 25 pair of jeans today and bought nothing……the “ high rise” sits just under my bra and at 69 years old my waist is thicker so they’re awfully uncomfortable ! The wide legs are ginormous and look idiotic on me. I have thick thighs and tried Madewell curvy…..and they’re too big. I went into Ann Taylor and couldn’t button any size 14. I am exhausted and totally discouraged with every darn brand out there. This is precisely why older women buy certain brands……because they may be ugly, but they fit our older bodies with our lumps bumps and 10 to 20 pounds of menopause chub.

Ex: you spoke of blazers- but I can’t figure out the correct formula for this popular blazer style. I have 3 black blazers- &1 is ‘missing’ that certain (?) additional apparel/thing/bottoms to make me comfortable in wearing it. It’s been hard to figure out because the blazer is more polished, -it’s like your ‘Miller dickie jacket’ in the catalog- it’s black with metallic buttons,. But to wear with what?My style is more ‘casual jeans/cargo pants’
