Level it up! Love the tour! Was looking forward to it. Thank you for doing monthly videos. It is a great frequency for me to keep up. Yeah change dust collection. Separating the chips and saving the filter for the particles. Chips that are curled and are annoying stuck in filter. I got 2hp Jet cyclone and love it. If I could hang it I would. Maybe scan for a used Oneida unit.

Nice shop Dave. You have made great buys. The table top drill press is very nice. I have a delta floor model and it is over kill. It is nice but the money $1,000 could have been spent more wisely. Like what you did. I got a real nice dust collect for the drill press called x-stream from peachtree woodworking supply. It would be perfect for you. I also have the sawstop construction model and bought the bells and whistles which really were not intended for the base model but of course I made it work. What I am saying is your Harvey is just as good, why change out? Your mind is your greatest safety feature.

Thanks for the tip on the x-stream. I looked it up and that would work perfectly for me. I like the flexibility of it. I could make one but for $50 why not buy, will see. I would like a Saw Stop but they don't come cheap and for good reason, it is an amazing product. Your comment, "Your mind is your greatest safety feature" is SPOT ON. Every time I turn on a power tool I think of safety. Thanks for watching and thanks for the input on the drill press dust collection!

Level It Up - curious if you don’t mind, but as I design a new 12x24 workshop I have noticed many woodworkers advocate placing their table saw such that the materials enter the saw from the garage door end to allow easy access for longer materials. Yours is the opposite and would be interested to hear your thoughts on that orientation. Thanks in advance for your feedback and congrats on a nice workshop!

Designing a shop sounds like a lot of fun. I had a blast thinking about how I wanted to set up my shop. My response to your question is rather selfish :). I have my assembly table next to the garage door for all material flow in and out. The table saw is the center of my shop which is where I like it. It does face out vs. in as you stated. I spend a lot of time in my shop and I would rather look out at a beautiful day vs. looking in at a concrete wall when I am at the saw which is often. I do have an outfeed table off of my saw (which I want to rebuild) so when I cut pieces they can slide directly onto the outfeed table and on to the assembly table. That has proven to help me when I'm doing long cuts or cutting a large number of pieces which I can stack on the assembly table.

@@levelupwoodworking thanks for the quick response - just always interesting to understand the “why” behind others decisions. Makes perfect sense to me and as I have considered options, both orientations are being considered - along with the primary tools you have, I also have a large lathe about 4’ long along with sharpening gear, and just trying to determine the most effective layout minimizing the need to move one item to use another. Thanks again - all the best!

In my opinion you don't need a two stage separation system if your filter is directly on the motor. It doesn't add anything than extra space you loose and suction loss. You already filter, why would you need a cyclone before the filter. And this machine isn't designed for a two stage system, so I don't think you would benefit from it

Thanks for your comment and feedback on the dust collection 2 stage system. I agree that I would definitely have suction loss, not what I want. I wonder if it would improve air quality within the shop. There are several videos out there on this topic but just haven't had the time to check them all out and formulate an opinion. Thanks!

@@levelupwoodworking I doubt if it does. A t 2 stage system also relies on your smallest filter. Having a cyclone before the filter is easier for emptying your bins and if you're a pro that's a major pro! The only pro I see is that your filter doesn't clog up so fast.
