Similar to Kanban system. I probably would've put a small Kanban cards (card with QR code, description, min order quantity, where to order) on the bottom of each box and made one box as a storage for cards which you need to order. Once one of the boxes run low and you see the card underneath, you take that card and put it into "to order" box. Once you have a couple of those cards collected, you make an order and put processed cards into "ordered/waiting" box. Once hardware arrives, you put cards back to their respective boxes along with bolts/nuts/etc.
