FUN FACT: JD Roberto was against the format change and immediately telephoned Pat Finn when he got the news. Finn was aware of the change and gave Roberto his endorsement. Roberto: "I’m gonna go really deep here. I’m a HUGE Pat Finn fan. I moved to Los Angeles in the early-to-mid 90s and my first job that I ever got when I moved to LA was given to me by Pat Finn. He had a production company that did infomercials, and he hired me to do, like, man on the street stuff in one of his infomercials when I was working at the local theme parks and I was so grateful to get something on camera. And after the job, I called him and I said, “Hey. look man, I don’t want to work at a theme park forever… You’ve got this company, can I come be a PA?” And he said, “Oh, you’re way too good to PA. Come in on Monday, we’ll find you a job.” I’ll tell you, for the next couple of years while I was getting my feet on the ground and getting some on-camera experience in Los Angeles, Pat gave me work, regularly. Pat was one of those guys that was there for me from the day that I moved to LA. And I’ve always admired him and admired how much he did selflessly for me. So when I got the call saying, “Hey, they’re looking at you to for this reboot of Shop Till You Drop,” my stomach sank. And I called Pat immediately, and was like, “Oh my God, Pat, somebody just called me about your job.” He said, “Oh, no, no, no. I know they’re redoing it; I know I’m not going to be the host. If somebody is going to make the money, I’m glad it’s you.” It was the sweetest thing ever. I went into it with a pretty good feeling because I kind of had Pat’s blessing, but was a completely different show. I think looking back on it this many years later, maybe my version was maybe not as compelling as Pat’s was with all the stunts and all the craziness… there was something incredibly fun about Pat’s version. I loved our version of the show, don’t get me wrong, but, um, I think a lot of fans were attached to the original version and I totally understand why. I did meet a lot of people on that job that went on to be really big in game shows and TV and who stayed in my life. (Rest of interview: buzzerblog.com/2019/03/19/interview-jd-roberto/) Another random fun fact: Pat Finn, JD Roberto, and David Ruprecht are all friends in real life.

I knew it was them! Also, Karen would be on Wheel of Fortune many years later (as Karen Cumberland, I believe) in Season 38 (I’m pretty sure).

I could tolerate the techno theme, but the theme song with lyrics when the show changed to a warehouse store format...BLECCH!!!

JD Roberto was actually against Pat Finn/Dee Baker's departure and was aware that format change was unpopular. I bet he would've done better if they kept the show the way it was. Blame his lousy hosting on the format change.

Hate to comment on the same thing multiple times, but does anyone know what day this broadcast on PAX? Wondering if it ran after the final episode of Sweep (05-23-03)

First off, this was from 2002 not 2001, just saying. Like most people, I never liked the costco version at all, it was just too depressing for me to watch. You can literally see the show start to die when the credits begin rolling. Such a shame Stone Stanley had to f*ck up one of the better game shows on tv. Good luck on the hosting career Chad, looking forward to it.

I believe it was recorded in 2001, but didn't air until 2002.
