Nice shop, entertaining tour. Love the wood collection and the adapted clamp stands. CDs? Wow. Same generation as your cameras. Five years after the fact, I’d love to see a new tour with a modern camera that induces less motion sickness. iPhone 14 cinema mode.

I love the Patreon appeal immediately after the crash - absolutely genius! I laughed so hard I woke the dog. Anyway, great channel and great shop. I like that there's a sufficient amount of clutter demonstrating a real functioning shop....and I now feel much better that mine isn't pristine either.
@bearkatwood63547 жыл бұрын
I am trying to make the new shop a little more clean and eliminate the clutter, but like you said, it is a working shop. Things just get that lived in look when you are busy doing real work.
@randysparks647 жыл бұрын
As one of my mentors told me many years ago: "A cluttered desk shows an active mind." Keep focusing on the work!

There are many studies that show that a messy desk may be a sign of genius. I know I had them here a minute ago and I would show them to you, but they seem to be buried just now. ha ha. Not saying I am a genius, but the mess must prove something. At least I hope so.
@randysparks647 жыл бұрын
I know the studies to which you are referring, but I can't find them either. :-)

If you're looking to make some speakers, I'd recommend the Overnight Sensations kit. Multiple vendors sell the kit. Relatively inexpensive, but quite high quality and great reviews. Thanks for the tour.

It comes form years of getting orders for everything under the sun. If I had just specialized in one area I would only have tools for that work. I have been fortunate to get many different things and I use them now and again, thanks.

My next shop is going to be between 2500ft and 3500ft. People don't understand that when you build custom furniture and you are busy you can have as many as six large tables going, each table has between eight and twelve chairs. Then the are the side furniture that goes with the sets, then there is the half wall paneling and the chair rails. If you are doing the complete room and many of each you need space for the ongoing work, drying areas, sanding areas and the list goes on. Just think I have not even mentioned the equipment yet! Think CNC 4x8 or 5x10, saws at least two, band saws large and small and on and on.
@bearkatwood63548 жыл бұрын
Oh and don't forget if you have two craftsmen working at the same time like us you need twice the space. Thanks for that, I need an old walmart for a shop. LOL

Nice shop. What about the light box kiln? How does it work?
@bearkatwood63546 жыл бұрын
Those are pretty nice to have. Mine has a small fan in it and a 100 watt light bulb. It gets up to about 115F. Some of the green woodworkers have holes to put the chair legs in so that just the tenon will get dry. Gets parts dry in a few days or up to a week depending on the size. I used a cabinet from the box store and wrapped the inside with insulation.

Hey Brian, Maybe you can go in Matt's direction and get a sponsor from equipment manufacturer that you like? Might help as even your PBS radio has sponsors? Sorry about the camera. given Yahoo had a serious security problem I would send you a check( not much but might help?)

I was there all days, but in class most of the time. I don't really need a CNC but they are good to have for monotonous production work, plus they don't call in sick like employees ;)

Where did you live in WV? I live in the country roads state.
@bearkatwood63548 жыл бұрын
I spent three years living just outside Lewisburg. I was out past Ronceverte (which is french for "green briar") up in the hills by Sinks Grove. It is a beautiful and magical state and I hope to go back and visit someday. I still smile when ever I hear that song ;) Country Roads. I still reference people toward John Wesley Williams, a woodworker from there.
