Shop with me at The Western Reserve Antique Shop for Incredible Early American Primitives

Hello prim friends! Welcome to our channel, ‪@Thecapeonthecorner‬ at Tweedthistle Farms, where we love to explore antique shops and homes that are filled with history in early American antiques and primitives. We are sharing the building process too as we build our forever home, a Cape Cod style home on our 5+ acres in Ohio where we also have a specialty cut flower farm. Follow along as we share daily life of starting seeds and planting seedlings for the cutting garden, establish new landscaping near our home to try to give it that early look and feel. I have a dream for a kitchen garden near the side porch filled with fresh herbs and a primitive fence to keep the deer and other kritters out.

Hi 🙋‍♀️new friend and content creator here. Your video just popped up in my feed. This piece is wonderful, I’d love to spend time hunting for treasures. They have so many timeless pieces. Came across your channel just by chance & watched some recent material & now I am backtracking to watch more. Can’t get enough of this channel. Why oh why has the world changed with all the modern things they call furniture with no character whatsoever. The market is flooded with so much disposable goods, it’s such a same. We can’t find anything like this now in most places. All the old skills have been lost. 😢

Years ago I was really into prim but didn't know that it was a thing. I just liked that style. Then I moved into more classical, then modern, then colonial, then farmhouse, then cottage, then this, then that, blah, blah.... But I am so returning to primative. Maybe not the extreme because I like my creature comforts of modern day but I do love the simplicity of prim, the organic feel it has, the dark moodiness and the craftmanship. I just love all of it. I'm moving in that direction and enjoy these videos.

Me too!! While I've bought and sold and lived with antiques most of my life, each home is different and I know there are some pieces that will fit perfectly and others that are just going to have to go. I'm looking forward to seeing this house become our home!

Chairs might be too low for the table but have some high benches made so sitting at table would be more comfortable. My husband can put together a bench in no time.

If somebody was just start decorating and primitive style, what would you suggest would be their first investment?

That's a great question Kellie! I've given it a lot of thought since first reading your comment. I can tell you - in our case it started with a couple of early bed frames. You can get a nice early prim bedframe for a great price and add some lovely woven textile covers or quilts at the foot of the bed. Instant room made prim. In a family room, it would probably be a prim cupboard for the TV if it's not a wall mounted one or even a trunk as your coffee table. Then, accessorize from there. I hope that helps!
