Well presented. ...I’d say it’s like owning the supermarket, or just a shelf in the supermarket. You have more fees to pay but you own the store, full control. ✌🏻

Ok dude, thanks!!! I think I'm gettin it. (So... an old school way of looking at it, would be like...) Etsy is, having a store inside a shopping mall... people will naturally stop by the mall. Maybe not, stop in your shop, but they'll surely be around. Where as Shopify is like, a store some place in town. People don't normally, just happen to, be wherever your store's located. (You would need to set up "the signs in town" and post in "the phone book" or "on T.V." in order for people to know, your store is even there.)

I have absolutely no money. And I make handmade artwork. I want to place my handmade collages on several products to make my work more accessible to customers who can't necessarily afford to pay a hundred bucks for a handmade original. I have no money, so I chose Etsy because of the lack of startup cost. I also have mental health issues that can make consistent social media marketing (consistent anything, for that matter) quite difficult. It's taken an embarrassing number of years to even get as far as I have. So, for my current position in life, Etsy works best. I really appreciate your thoughtful videos and advice. I'm so glad I stumbled across this channel!

Uh, the competition on Shopify is everyone else who's advertising on Facebook and Instagram, or trying to push traffic to their store using Twitter and Pinterest and the rest of social media, plus Google Ads. That's a whole lot of competition. Okay, now let's talk about cost and risk. I can answer both in one word: WooCommerce. It's free with your monthly hosting, meaning it will cost you around five bucks a month, there's no 20-cents per listing fee, no transaction fees, and no super expensive add-ons for reviews, analytics, cart abandonment, whatever. Plus you can't be shutdown period (so long as you aren't pushing porn or something illegal.)

Great video again. I have always thought of Etsy as a unique hand made craft artisan site. I know that has changed. But Etsy wants you to identify yourself and your shop. This means your "shop" or your identity needs extra work. But I will probably give Etsy a try.

Shimmy! Thanks so much for this video. I'm taking my first step into the world of OnDemand Print. I like the ease of Etsy and Printful integration, just find the whole pricing and calculating profits and choosing what to price items confusing, i.e I sell hats and sometimes shirts, I try to reduce the prices without trying to lose, £21 to £25 trouble is, if I get sales from the UK or Europe the taxes go really up, sometimes losing profit compared to been bought by US customers, and the product prices look really high on Etsy.

I've let my Etsy store run down a bit and focused more on Shopify. I currently don't pay for ads to my website but use content marketing and am gradually seeing the traffic grow that way. Another idea i've thought about is to simply use Etsy as a link into my website, with just a subset of products listed there and lots of messaging about % discounts on my website. Not sure if that might break the Etsy rules though...
@LL-ex1gp3 жыл бұрын
It goes against Etsy’s terms of service to message people about shop discounts and could get shut down for it. Pretty sure you could get away with posting something in your heading or about page and say check out more at whatever your Shopify domain is for more. Or you might what to share a link to a newsletter w a discount code so you can build your email list, then in your news letter refer them to your Shopify store.
@shimmymorris13 жыл бұрын
it seems like it would break their terms, make sure to double check with them as you don’t want to lose your store
