My TV started to flicker on and off the other morning. After dealing with LG Support, I got on KZbin to see if I could figure out my problem. I came upon this video and decided I would give it a shot. When I received my new LEDs, I noticed the + and - markings on the new ones were different than the markings on mine. I contacted Shop Jimmy to inquire about the difference as I did not want to fry my TV. Shop Jimmy assured me the strips were correct and that the plugs would need a little extra pressure to install them on to the new strips. I proceeded with the install and my TV now works like a brand new one. Thanks Shop Jimmy for your product, video, and your professional support team. FYI my TV was a LG model 60LB6500-UP.

As a person who has already done this you don't need to do half the stuff this guy is doing. 1. No need to buy suction cups, place screen face down on a towel let it rest there instead of trying to lift screen. 2. No need to hammer and chisel the strips off they just pull off if you do it with care keeping your hand close to where you pull. 3. Unless all of your strips / LED's are burnt out i wouldn't be replacing the entire strip(s). They are quite expensive to buy and you are not guaranteed they are new, and if second hand you don't know how many hours are on them. The cheapest way is to buy individual LED's from Ebay or Amazon costing cents and replacing them. They are easy enough to replace with a soldering iron. I have done this on exact LG in video and replaced 8 burnt LED's, Job done.

Just curious once you have the LEDs in plain view how do visually know which ones are bad? This guy replaced all of them in the video. Should I just assume they're all bad?
@gainmaster1
@gainmaster1 3 жыл бұрын
@@memphistiger4647 a lot of the time the LED will be discolored, not usual yellow. And the ones that are burnt out will have a black spot or mark somewhere on diode. Best way is to test with a LED tester. Cheap on EBay or Amazon then replace individual LED’s which are also cheap. If you try to buy complete strip then it will end up being very expensive especially if only one or 2 LED’s burnt out on strip. All depends how long you want fix to last. Might have same issue with other LED’s over time but to get it working that is the way to go. Having brightness of backlight up to 100% causes this issue especially if TV isn’t that old.

I was given a 55" LG with the picture flashing on and off. Dismantled it per your video and found 36 of 55 of the backlight LEDs burned out. Replaced all the strips with new ones from Shop Jimmy and now I have an "almost free" 55" TV. Set the backlight to 73% to hopefully prevent future burnouts! Thanks for your concise videos and great parts selection!

That's what I wanted to know, I got a free 50 inch, the light strips flicker, pulled apart, found a few blown leds, I'm guessing by your comment that replacing these will fix it? Or at least it did yours?

Great video. I had 2 tables set up with blankets though and flipped the lcd face down on the blanket after i got all the circuit boards loose and lifted the backlight assembly off since i didnt have sx cups. AND it seemed likely for me to break something lifting it and flopping it around. replaced the leds on table 2 and flipped it back.

I just repaired my LG 55" by using this site and this video. Thanks! Symptoms - noticed dark spot fluctuating in intensity in top right of tv. This happened for a few days until the tv started to turn off and on in a continuous loop. I decided to replace all of the LED's because this is what I noticed FIRST before the power cycling and because this is a known issue with this LG model, according to various internet search results. I watched the entire video first. Then, I followed the video step by step, pausing before proceeding to the next step. The wire connectors/jumpers did not have the same fit as on the original LED strips. I used a standard screwdriver to GENTLY but forcibly push the connector into place on the new led strips. Suggestions: Watch your fingers when removing the back of the TV, mine has extremely SHARP edges in places and will slice into your fingers. Get the suction cups and the tape. Make sure you have PLENTY of room. Use a blanket for protecting the screen/table (not a thick quilt). If you are able to work on a table, this will save your back and your knees. Wash your hands before touching the filters. Get a few small containers to hold the screws and fasteners. The filter bezel clips were delicate on my tv. I broke 1 because I hulked out, be careful with these. I replaced the strips 1 entire row at a time. I think all but 3 lenses popped off the old strips while removing them so I don't recommend doing this with small children or animals around due to possible choke hazard, make sure you account for each one if you do have children or pets. The old lenses look like they could be used for some artsy fartsy craft project so give them to your grandma or some old person ;)

I have applied every step here, with great care (as much as I could) I have taken the risk of removing the LCD panel which is the most expnsive and fragile part in the assembly. It's not very easy to remove every connector as well, especially the panel driver connector is very sensitive too. There are so many screws and all sorts of clips and one must be very careful to remove them without damagnig the TV. I have used a smaller set of vacuums to hold the LCD but they did the job (still paying great attention while holding the LCD panel)... Hint: this LG model of mine, claims that its LCD is immune to mechanical crashes, so I was hoping that bending during panel removal won't cause a problem... So many levels, very tiring, it took about 4 hours for me. (one hour for just one defective screw!) At the end of the day, I have managed to replace one line of leds which was defective... Thank you sir for this extremely helpful guide. .. *UPDATE:* four months ago I have replaced one row of 2 LED bars (A and B type), and commented the result. Now, last month another LED strip from the remaining bars also burnt... :-(. This was expected, but not so soon, the time was somewhat shortened due to the Corona virus stay-home full time TV netflix watching... :-) So, this time I decided to replace the whole set of 10 bars. Last week I bought 5 rows (10 bars) of new LEDs. Reopened the TV and replaced all the bars. One thing I observed was that the defective bar was connected to the renewed bar. Note that among 5 rows, upper two were connected in series and the lower three were connected separately in series. So the new and old bar connection in the upper part failed before the lower three older bars. This supports the fact that renewing just one bar (or one led) among older ones, impose more strain on the remaning bars and kill them faster than otherwise. So it's better to replace them all together unless something else was necesary. It was extremely tiring again. The internal frame that holds white polarizor screening really was a headache. Also moving the LCD panel was a thrill too. Indeed one of the vacuum cups broke during the panel removal but I was lucky as the drop height was less than half a foot. But then I had to find another (safer) approach to remove the LCD screen, not relying on suction cups. Slightly pull the LCD panel aside without scratching and bending it. Note that this model of LG TV claims to have a scratch and hit immune LCD coating. It was demonstrated to me when I decided to buy it. The seller hit the screen with his palm and said that this IPS panel was strong enough to survive children filled house accidents! Anyway. At the end of the day I managed it. But there was a disaster ! In the first trial I have forgotten to connect one cable on the last LED bar! The TV didn't work OMG !!! I almost gone crazy!! but then I re-opened the TV and found that I forgot to connect the LED bar connector at the lowest bar !!! OMG I was happy but very tired! You know. I do not suggest this LG TV. It's overall a good TV but first its LED lighting strategy is wrong which burns then at 4 to 5 years! Furthermore, the white-screen is not fully uniform in brightness and there are ghost shadows on the screen when a white background shows up, especially when it moves fast enough the gost shadow pattern becomes painly visible. I do not suggest this TV because of this. But the functionality of the TV is quite good. It connects very well with computers, ADSL box and other devices. Its built in satellite decoder is also working fine, despite being slow in channel seek...

The first TV I fixed was my 65 inch 4k Smart TV I got for free from someone who said only the bottom strip of lights worked, me being new to this didn't care and wanted to try it out, got new LED strips, and 11 hours and taking it apart 3 times later, I got it, don't know how I didn't break it. Forgot the piece of cardboard inside that I used to help get the screen out, so had to take it apart the second time, then had to take it apart a third time because there was a small piece of tape on one of the ribbon cables to the t-con board and so half the screen was flickering and discolored until I took the piece of tape off allowing the first few pins to reconnect, lol. It was a nightmare, but it was fun

Thank you ShopJimmy! I just reconnected my LG47LB5800 and it works again! [40+ SBF] I ordered the LED strips and double sided tape from ShopJimmy. The suction cups and 5-in-1 tool were out of stock, got those from Amazon. One additional suggestions take a photo of how the wires are connected as well as the proper order for the strips. Also use a lightweight tape to keep the filters together.

Got my ShopJimmy replacement strips in for my LG 55LB5550, I simply mimicked the person in the video and everything went smoothly. The TV has only been running for an hour so no telling how long they'll last but it looks great so far! Glad to see they were not OEM or pulls, they're completely different, which is great because so many people have had problems with the OEM I think they're fundamentally flawed. The OEM wires and connectors won't work on these so be sure to use the included connectors. Awesome video, awesome replacement strips so far!

I sent my TV (LG 42LB65) to be fixed by an LG-certified repair center here in Egypt. The backlight strips were replaced, but instead of bright white spots, there are slightly dark spots, which can be noticed in video games with large bright uniform scenes. In other words, my problem was mitigated, not completely resolved. When I called the maintenance shop, they told me this is due to the fact that the components of my TV (especially the power supply) are old. I bought the TV, as far as I remember, on 2/2/2015, making the TV over 8 years old at the time of repairing (late May 2023). The weird thing is that the sightly dark spots are there despite the backlight being very very bright. Moreover, on some contents colors seem to be "washed out"; too much pale color on the screen, especially KZbin videos. Several technicians I know tell me different things, but most notably that it might be an issue with the quality of the LED backlight strips. The strips I installed are not a genuine kit produced by LG, but a Chinese one. The repair shop told me that the genuine backlight kits are far more expensive and are not available; all those who claim to sell genuine Korean LED backlight strips are lying. I need help, can this issue be 100% resolved? Can this issue persist due to the TV being old? I want to fix the issue 100% and have my TV like new again. Do you think someone here is lying to me?

Thanks to your help I now have a repaired 47LB585V TV with a stunningly good picture (it was given to me as broken). It would have helped if you'd mentioned that it's easier to remove the three pointed standoffs in the middle, if you temporarily remove the PSU board and motherboard. The are much easier to remove if you can access both sides of the chassis plate.

It wouldn't be a problem if they used alumnium strips with thermal paste to diffuse heat and prevent the leds from cooking to death. They use glass fiber strips and put zero measures to prevent overheating, literally building screens to die out in a few years.

Hi I am attempting to replace the LEDs on my LB47650V. I have a very trivial question. What kind of adhesive tape was used in the video to hold the screens together.

55LH575A - Prior to installing the new LED strips, the picture was fine, but dim in areas. After replacement, the led lights are working fine, but no image appears on screen. Various colors and lines are appearing and I can see that something is happening as I push buttons, but no detailed image is on the screen. I purchased a new tcon board also, but swapping it out doesn’t change anything

Do you know what it means when the LED (LD701) on the back of the power supply board flashes 4 times? This occurs after the backlights turn off. I have already bought an LG 55LM5800 Power supply repair kit from shopjimmy (because you were out of stock of the ps board). That didn't fix it so I replaced the main Caps, that didnt help so I bought a replacement power supply board and IM STILL having the same issue, please help? After replacing the ps board the backlights power on & everything works for about 20-30 minutes then the backlights turn off. Now when I measure the voltages at the led strips>power supply board it goes up to about 70v on both connectors then drops quickly to zero volts. If I place my DMM in Loz mode then the voltage doesn't drop to zero and It reads a steady 71.1v on both connectors. It's an edge lit model btw.

I just found this video after taking my same tv apart the opposite way , Does any one know the right way the diffusers go as i kept them all together but forgot which way to lay them on the lcd 😱 . Is the heaviest sheet the last to go on and there is a shiney darker one through to a clearer one . Does the darker one goes towards the lcd first or the lighter one . Thanks . any advice appreciated 😊

I used these steps to affix those little plastic lenses that had come unattached. HUGE QUESTION: I got my diffuser sheets mixed up. I have one thick sheet with one matte side and then two thin sheets. Not sure where I went wrong and I've tried them in different configurations but I am seeing the LEDs behind the sheets. WHAT IS THE CORRECT ORDER of these sheets???? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Absolutely, a short section of the original fault of this TV should have been made before any dissembling... IE.. My TV turns on, sound is perfect, picture appears perfect, no dark or overly bright areas ..picture shows clearly for a split second ..then whole screen goes black for a few seconds and then cycles in this pattern. When working normally, a small section of the screen would occasionally have an flicker as opposed to a flash and would be more apparent when displaying a white background.

I need someone to reply to this and tell me how to tell how many volts the led chips are in my lg TV? I purchased 3v before taking apart but found out it's not right. I can test each chip with 12v and they work with 3 volts they will not also with 6 volts nothing. It does have 9 leds per strip and says 94v however I cannot find 10.44 volt chips or anything other then 6v so what do I do?
