You can actually lift off the knob if the car is in neutral then just yank the knob off to take it off for more space to work. But overall the video is educational!!!

thanks. i've had my e46 convertible for not quite 2 years now. sunglass tray has opened intermittent (more not than open). i just saw this vid and figured how to pull the unit out. the PO stored cigarettes in there. apparently a filter had fallen into the lock mechanism and was preventing the lock moving to the release position. after getting it out i was able to clean it up and found the culprit filter.....

Gday mate, nice series on removing the console. My e46 has black plastics, and it seems to be coated in a rubber film that has gotten a fair amount of scratching and wear over the years lending to a pretty crappy finish. I've heard of people scrubbing it off with a toothbrush or something similar, but wanted to see if you have any input. Cheers for the video!

+Daniel Park I would scrub everything off completely and used plasti-dip or something similar if you still want that rubbery feeling, or you can just paint the plastics with a more durable finish.

Once you have the rest of the center console removed it will be held in with 3 13mm bolts, attached to the floor.

hi there - great videos. I'm just trying to replace my inner tray (www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/storage-tray-schwarz/51168228810/) I can't seem to pry the top tray out of the bottom section. I've removed all components as per this video and nothing specific seems to be actually keeping in place. My only next resort is force but I've found with all these things that most times if you know the trick you don't need to force (and generally break) the pieces. Do you have a video or suggestion on how to remove the tray inside the armrest?

I found a way - insert a flat head screwdriver down into the front opening for the armrest latch and prise it up from the middle/underside. It just popped right out!
