John Heisz Thank you very much John for the kind words. Much appreciated. I feel it came out ok, but from a design point of view the dust collector is kinda bulky. but it needed to be ridgid to support the top spindle sander table. Well, performance is more important than looks, but it doesnt hurt:)

I must have watched this video 10 times already, if not more, and it keeps getting better and better every time as I pick up more wonderful ideas... I hope to copy this build one day soon as this is by far the best best sander I have seen; including one's for purchase too... Up keep, adjustment, and reasonably priced plus one comes away with the satisfaction of doing it themselves... Thanks for sharing...

Hi Bellevue Workshop, I am blown away with your edgesander and the enigmatic video. I have watched the video ten times and still dont appreciate just how to build it. I have the rollers for the drums and the bearings are on the way to me. I have the circle cutter and can now cut the wood circles for the drum ends. I am still pondering a replacement for the windscreen wiper motor. I have set up to buy a used electric bench grinder on ebay for the main motor. It did take quite a time to understand the belt release mechanism. Well done Colin Farrier Northern ireland

colin farrier Thank you very much for the kind comments Colin, it is much appreciated. Sounds like you are well on your way to building yourself one. I am not 100% sure of how the design of a power window motor for a car is, but that might be an option. I was contacted by a viewer from Germany who built the same sander just based on the vide and a few still shots. He also added some extra and really nice features to it. You can see it over at my website:bellevuewoodshop.com/bjorns-edgesander-2/

@bellevuesnekkeri
@bellevuesnekkeri 10 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you Tyler. I think it would also work with a regular small geared motor and an adjustable offset wheel.. I cant seem to find your earlier comment on the use of clamps. They work very well, but the shortest one beeing 1000mm long the get a little bulky for these kind of projects. I have used the in some panel glueups, and are happy with them. I would not go for a smaller motor than 1hp, rather go with a 1,5 or better 2 hp

@bellevuesnekkeri
@bellevuesnekkeri 9 жыл бұрын
+Clintonio B Thank you Clintonio. The problem is that is built with salvaged parts, and I would have to search the net for readily available parts, buy them and build the sander to fit, to make sure it works. Also I think it would get to expensive , unless you have access to good priced parts. I was lucky to salvage all the parts for mine, so it did not cost me a dime.. But thanks for the kind words, and for yuor interest

That wiper motor idea is just pure genius. Wanted to build one myself forsome time, but never got around the oscillating mechanism, without employing too much machining and paying for it, of course.
@bellevuesnekkeri
@bellevuesnekkeri 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I cannot take credit for the idea. Saw something similar on a jet belt sander, and figured a wiper motor would do the trick
@jrumbel
@jrumbel Жыл бұрын
I feel like the oscillation is unnecessary. Couldn't you just have a bed the is at an angle to the belt so you can use all parts of the belt? Essentially a ramp rather than a level platform? Left end of the platform at the bottom of the belt...right end at the top part. Move the workpiece and you're at a different part of the belt but still able to use the platform as a reference surface? Just a thought.
