You my friend have set the bar for thoughtful, useful, entertaining, and well produced, 3DP fabricator content. How you're able to do it all at the same time as running the biz, spending time with the fam, and build a new shop is absolutely beyond me but I am here for it. Looking forward to hearing even more thoughts from you as the industry and your business grow and new options come online. Keep crushin' 💪

Thanks for the helpful update! Yes the microSD cards do wear out. Their memory cells only have a finite number of read/write cycles and the card will wear-level this activity by spreading these across the entire space of the card in order to maximize it's lifetime. That being said, if there's things you can do to reduce the amount of read/writes going to the card (like disabling the timeslapse video captures), that would maximize it's lifespan. Also using a larger capacity card can help, as that spreads out the wearleveling across a larger playing field before the faulty bits start showing up.

The SD card issue I have had with CNC machines. Insert card and it’s “not found”. Take out and re insert with same result. Turning CNC off and back on cures it. Strange. Sometimes you have to “go with the flow.” Regarding the public confession of no maintenance, I suspect you will never get warranty coverage from Bambu. 😂

A lot of the cleaning routines are for people using ABS or other plastics that deposit a film or residue on the whole printer. For petg or pla it's really not necessary

I've had loads of standard Microsd cards fail, They are not built for repeated write/reads. You need to get ''High Endurance' especially made for Dash Cams. as they can cope with the constant writing/reading/overwriting cycle.

With how many SD card failures you are having, one thought that came to mind is an electrostatic discharge corrupting the card. With filament performing best in dry air conditions, that could lead to a higher than normal static electricity buildup.

Yes no motor crash detection and you have to low speed or disable layer fan to avoid layer adhesion problem. Also it has no spinning fan detection. I was printing for many hours with a print fan no spinning because the connector is a awful. Flex is also a nightmare. My old MK3 has crash detection, fan detection and it can print flex like a boss. The wiper is almost useless. It is sad that bambulab does not upgrade those small details to make a perfect machine. That said, it is still the best machine for the price.

Ive never had a failed print with any material on my 2 X1C units. Actually the only fail ive had, was one of my 4ams units got stuck. Works fine now. Ive run every filiment type that the X1C is capable of. That includes PPA CF. Never used glue, and only messed with the stock settings ONCE "with the PPA" i slowed it down to 40 and put a blanket on the top glass. Flawless. Both machines have been running non stop for 4 months now. And when I say non stop, I mean.... non stop. I always dry every new filiment roll I get, and I store them all in SEALED plastic totes filled 1/4 with silica. The bambu machines are basically an APPLIANCE at this point. Buy it, set it up, and push play. It does what it should every time. I clean my machine and lube it once per week. And recalibrate once a month or if its moved.

If you are having adhesion issues. Exclusivelly run the textured bed. Even if you print with the wrong sliced filiment, it somehow still sticks. Unless the temp is WAY off. Like 40 to 60c. For example if you slice for pla, and put in PPA CF. In which case it wouldnt even feed.

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from my Ender 5 Pro to a Bambu Labs P1S w/ AMS during the Black Friday sale and all I can say is WOW! What a difference! Speed and quality went through the roof. I'm not running a print farm so I haven't done any maintenance on it at all (I should probably look into that) nor have I run into any of the issues you spoke about...yet. The machine is a rock star and has prompted me to dive into Fusion 360 and start designing my own things. The only thing different that I have done is that I printed a poop chute so my floor doesn't look like yours. You have a lot of poop...LOL. Great video Travis!

You are completely right with the assumption of MicroSD lifespan, they are known to have some of the worst overall durability before failure due to reading and writing data. It’s a shame that the p1s doesn’t have a USB interface to prevent the issue, but having cold spares on hand is the best solution. Thanks for the info! Just picked up my first P1S last week and I’m very happy with it for consumer needs.

Hey Travis, thank you for another great video! I have to say that I really enjoy your videos on both of your channels. The useful information you provide is in perfect balance with the pace. About the SD cards I won't say anything as others did it already. Regarding the bed adhesion though I have a suggestion. I think you really need to try the new Bambu Cool Plate SuperTack. Not only you 'll get improved bed adhesion, but as you 're running a big printer farm you 'll feel the difference in your pocket. Lowering the bed temperature about 25°C will have a major impact on the total power consumption.

SD cards are notoriously unreliable; kinda surprised they're used for caching. You might want to try "High Endurance" SD Cards. They're mainly used for dash cams, so they're built to handle excessive writes. Not sure how they'll handle constant reads, but it's worth a shot. Also suggest getting larger SD cards. To increase reliability, manufactures make them larger than advertised and use "wear leveling" to move data from bad "blocks" to good ones. Larger SD cards will have more blocks, giving it more wiggle room. Suggest partitioning them on your computer but leaving unused space. Ex: a 256Gb card with 1 128GB partition. This keeps the printer from writing to the unused space, but the SD card will be smart enough to use that extra space for wear leveling.
@PretzelShredder
@PretzelShredder 15 сағат бұрын
Also, iirc you're running printers off of a UPS. Make sure they're advertised as "Pure Sinewave". Noisy power causes "fun" problems in electronics; a pure sinewave will make your power supply happier. Probably not an issue for most people, but given your runtime it's something you should consider.
@naaitsab
@naaitsab 13 сағат бұрын
Micro SD's are indeed very unreliable. A common grievance among Raspberry Pi users as well. Using a higher end brand like a Samsung or Sandisk goes a very long way. And indeed picking a 'write endurance' model if the workload requires it. Both SD cards models shown on the video are low quality, so not really surprised they go bad often. A good one might cost 5 times a much but if it lasts 10 times a long it's an easy trade off in a production environment.

As the SD card is used for caching it is 100% wear out that causes them to stop working. How Bambu would avoid this is to not doing regular writes to SD, and rather use internal (and more robust) storage. Love the overview and walk-through! Excellent video

I am wondering if static buildup could also be an issue with the SD cards getting KIA. I tend to get a tiny discharge when I touch the outer shell of my X1C, to the point that I make sure to tap the top of my wrist just before opening the door as a just in case. Granted, I never print off the card as I almost exclusively send it directly to the printer. But something to think about.

About MicroSD cards, they really only last 10000 read or write cycles because of the electrical structure. So if your printer uses the card as a cache, and writes to it once per print, reads during the print, and reads every time you load a file, you can have a lot of usage on that little card. This is a heavy usage case. However, you use Lexar cards. These will have a 5 year warranty. You could seek replacements for the broken ones.

@@ShopNation "Nothing against trans" "Shockingly high number of misguided young adults these days" "unnecessary social contagions" While you may think that because it's wordplay it's just a joke, but a joke specifically aimed at trans folk, directly accusing them of being misguided in their struggle for normalcy is the "unnecessary social contagion" in this scenario, while you may not be transphobic yourself, what you said is, so if you didn't mean it to be that way I'd recommend editing that bit out of the video, because we're all here to listen about 3D printing and your journey to make better dust collection. The point is basically this: why go out of your way to write an objectively unnecessary joke about a minority of largely vulnerable people when you didn't have to. here's a couple jokes, also not particularly amazing, but also not transphobic. "Much like the US government, some things are changing around here." "Like a shocking number of planes this year, we've had some manufacturing difficulties."

What about Creality bro!? Just kidding, the Bambu printers are really nice, and you hit the reasoning why they work great in a print farm. If I could justify buying one, I would. But as it stands right now I run a few dozen jobs a year for various parts, including running stuff that wont fit on any of the current gen Bambu's, so I stick with my ancient Ender 5 Plus.

I'd check out the A1 mini just to see how good they run. I'm kind of the same way I've used a couple upgraded ender 3 pros for 4 years that I only use hard a couple months outnof the year. I got tired of constantly trouble shooting and got a p1s recently. I feel like I came from the stone age. The thing works so well and works fast with crazy reliability

@@codyjames4834 Yup, I have looked strongly at a P1S. But I have lots of expensive hobbies and I figure if I have to babysit and tweak my Ender 5 a bit for the handful of times I use it, then it is what it is.

So one thing you don't mention in this video, as a business owner and an individual who has designed the parts they sell, how do you feel about supporting a company who have quite clearly taken influence, or possibly even stolen ideas offered open source by the community without any attribution or recompense to those creators? The machines look great, but to be honest, I cannot justify this behavior and it is the main issue I have with buying any of their products for my (admittedly smaller) farm.

Every exp I have had with their customer service has not been good. I no longer reccomend them because of this. I received bad extruder gears (burrs). They still have my $ and I still have useless gears 3 weeks later . And according to them, that is how it is going to be.

Great content as usual Travis, but no need for the dig on the trans community. They have it hard enough. Just let people be who they truly are. Their existence harms no one. Live and let live; be good to each other. 🍻

@@garthdougherty8489 Not the only one, and not "off limits", more of a "why kick them why they're down?" situation. It would be no different throwing jabs at homeless, addicts, mentally ill, etc. People are different, people are less fortunate, and even though I'd be considered a "leftist" based on my views, I don't throw casual jabs at those who wear red hats, I simply choose not to interact with or otherwise include them in my life. Really, just let people be, and be good to each other. 🍻

@@garthdougherty8489 it's the word "misguided" which turns it from a light hearted comment, to a dig at trans people. It's not that it's off limits, but there's a lot of baggage and nuance to the subject matter at question.

It seems like you do read you comments so I'm hoping to contribute some constructive criticism and not be disregarded just because, I too, felt the line toward the beginning was weird. That line was weird. Plenty of lines can be weird and you don't have to mean anything bad by them necessarily but I think it was obviously so. People who think so aren't "infected my the woke mind virus" as many of the responders seem to think. It just felt really random and out of place in a 3D Farm video. I get it the initial throughline of transitioning the farm being the connective tissue, I just think the actual joke didn't land all too well. A lot of throwaway jokes don't land. That's kind of the nature of them. I certainly don't get the impression that you sat there crafting this video's script around that line. Obviously. Usually the response to somebody bringing that up is something as simple as "oh my bad it was just a joke", "hey I didn't mean anything by it, it's just a joke", "could you not tell I was joking?" etc. but skimming your responses they start out on the other end. You're leading with "well I think it's a real issue so why can't I joke about it?". If it's an earnest belief (which it seems likelier than not) then you're not really selling it as a joke. Intent is hard to discern, especially over curated media. You don't *have* to have good intent for a joke to be funny, but it goes a hell of a long way to padding the landing if its a rocky one, and it's not clear to the people who have issue with it that you did. Does that make sense? I think your responses to the criticism, no matter how "triggered" or "annoying" they may come across are also similarly so. You're kind of missing the point in my eyes. I'm not the aforementioned group, nor do I go around trying to joke police everybody, nor do I think you can never punch down. I think if you're making an earnest attempt at a joke, as long as you don't cross some obvious lines it's generally all fair game. As are peoples' responses.
