I get it, but Econoline and Express were built to last. I wanted a van that I didn't have to baby or have anxiety about breaking down. Although in retrospect I would have rather had a box truck, I still love my Express. I bought it used. It was a fleet vehicle that was well maintained. I had to do a couple repairs a year after I bought it. Since then, I've had zero major issues. Did have to replace the resistor and blower motor, but that was small potatoes and DIY.

Check the solenoid pack on the transmission. Could possibly be the problem. You should be able to find a pin diagram online which tells you the resistance within the circuit that they are supposed to read. If your readings are off you have bad solenoid pack. On the older 6 speeds it’s a $300 fix and a few nervous moments 😅

LOL, anyone who's followed you for awhile can't possibly expect a quick answer 😉. You are always thoughtful & deliberate in your considerations! If you end up buying at CarMax, please have it checked - I had to return a Sienna years ago, after my mechanic looked at it and was appalled at the rust on the undercarriage. I ended up getting a camper for the back of my Toyota long bed, which has been fine but I would much rather have a van. I did buy my Tacoma (standard stick) new 10 years ago so I have been the only driver and, so far, the transmission has been fine. My dream vehicle would be a Transit Connect 4WD. Please don't choose a pickup Scott! I just FINALLY got a van after living in my pickup with a high rise cap. It was cramped and cold! Always climbing up and down to get in and out. I was grateful to have a roof but ultimately it would not have been my choice. I just had no other options and ended up living out of it for a total of 17 months. Also, you can't get into the front without getting out in the weather first. Everything inside gets wet in the rain while entering or exiting too. No way to keep clothes hanging to dry, etc. I just know you'll find something so much better, hang in there!
@StaticCamperVanАй бұрын
Every month hundreds of people tell me that I am cramped and cold in my van

I got a 2006 Sienna as a camping/retreat. Pretty good deal from the owner, on cars d0tcom. Taking out seats, the bolted ones are quite easy while the removable second row was tricky, to get it tilted properly to release. All the second gen 2004-2011 are easier to remove seats than later ones. Took out second and third row and rebolted the front passenger seat onto 2x4 mounts with casters to make it movable. Made a folding sort of hide-a-bed. With minivans, the head room may not be as good as the Promaster city. The plastic wall panels are harder for mounting things. But the roof rack for solar on a Sienna fits 4 100W panels. Heating/cooling is a big challenge with all the windows. Window covers out of reflectix are needed. Still needs a big vent fan to keep temperatures reasonable. An aftermarket remote start is helpful.
@experimentaldave7607Ай бұрын
I love my VW Vanagon Westfalia. Probably not the right van for you though. A VW Eurovan Weekender or full camper would be sweet, though. My wife's van is an older Toyota Sienna (2006) and has been pretty reliable... knock on wood. That's probably your best bet. You could have the window's wrapped in matching body color vinyl or tint them really dark if that's an issue. Add a layer of Reflectix and call it good. Good luck with your search!

@@olgabermudez1664 My son has a Nissan cope and had it in for an oil change today, we were told the transmission fluid should be changed every 3 years for $550
@lillian2720Ай бұрын
PS. His car is now paid off after 5 years. Never a problem, very reliable. But now that they recommend changing transmission fluid every 3 years for $550 I think it’s time to get a car which one can change for a lot less.

If you get a Sienna you are likely to have good service from it with fewer problems than other options. In terms of the windows you could put block foam insulation in them and leave it there, then they would not be like windows anymore! You could also ask the dealer to remove and keep the seats as part of the deal, then you would be rid of them. When I bought my 2012 Toyota Sequoia with 127,000 miles on it I also looked at a 2012 Chevy suburban with 80,000 miles on it. I asked my honest independent mechanic which one to get since they were the same price. He said get the Toyota. When I said "the Chevy has 47,000 fewer miles on it, wouldn't it be more reliable?" He laughed and said "no way, the Toyota would be more reliable with 200,000 miles on it". I got the Toyota. best of luck in your search! great videos, thank you.

I understand from the news that as we approach 2025, it will become more of a buyers market. Much success to you!

Scott I would think that windows also eliminate a lot of potential storage space, since the closed walls do allow for hooks, storage cubbies, shelves, etc. And, I would feel more comfortable with solid walls, and less chance of bad guys snooping when I am in it; and/or property being more secure from would-be thieves. Usually, they say, people steal what they have previously SEEN. Now more than ever before, people are stealing the smallest, cheapest things, to be able to quickly trade for illicit items. In other words: Nothing is too cheap to want to steal. Privacy would also be very important to me. It is interesting, listening to you thinking Out Loud. 😊

You might want to consider dropping the transmission pan, changing the oil and the filter that alone may just help with your transmission problem. Although, if you did buy a high roof van, you would be much more comfortable being able to stand in it 😀

There is no transmission pan on these ZF transmissions. kzbin.infoOG1u9m5fZ_o?si=j9dGgo-ymJ9ZYH8E

Scott, I just looked up the Ford Transit Connect and Carfax in Portland Oregon has one listed for a little over $12,999. Also I found another one in Portland 2011 Ford Transit Connect · XLT $7500 with about 111,000 miles

Just having fun with your channel name. I think of static meaning not changing, but this entire episode is about an upcoming change in your life. Quite dynamic. :)

💜 maybe your thumbnail could say shopping for my next home? Because, that is literally what you are shopping for… :-)

Good idea. The thumbnails work best with fewer words though. I might change the video title to your suggestion though

Change it only if you want to. I would say you have a lot of loyal viewers out here who are gonna watch your video no matter what it is called. And I am not really sure how much the wording captures the attention of newcomers. The other thing I Wanted to comment on was also I was wondering how that would work for you once you bought a new vehicle and having to build it out how you were gonna manage that. Even though you are static, you have to keep moving from place to place. I like your idea of being able to go to a family or friends driveway and do the work. But then again, not knowing if your vehicle will make it there. And then again having two vehicles to get to one place. But I’m sure you have lots of friends that would help you out. My best to you! Good luck with everything. Have a great week Scott!

Hey, Scott! I enjoyed looking at vans with you & I have just an idea! My sister bought a car from Carmax a couple years ago! She went online & told them what she was looking for & they even brought in cars for her to choose from! A good experience! Good luck in your search!😊

Having owned 5 minivans , one was a cargovan. I am partial to the Toyota minivans. If you get 2019 or newer you may not be able to remove the front passenger seat or the second row because they have airbags and other safety features that are hard to work around. For just one the minivan is a perfect blend of ride, fuel economy alower maintenance costs. You have to understand any vehicle that has a lot of miles and was used to to haul people and it it holds 7 passengers that could be a lot o weight and if it was a Taxi or Uber to and from airports the transmission could have issues. We only had the transmission rebuilt in the Dodge grand caravan and that was at under 90k... the 1984 GMC through a rod at 79k. Of the 2 Toyota Siennas one we purchased with 160k and drove it over 200k, in less than 2 years, before we purchased a lease return 2017 and sold our 2006 to our mechanic. I still see Blue Bear driving around near my home base. Yes stay away from the Jeeps., expensive maintenance and not real reliable. Windows can be covered over. Best wishes on finding your next vehicle home.
