Okay, so in the spirit of full disclosure- my full-time job is being a supervisor at my local Kohl's department store. There is actually quite a bit of alternative/goth friendly things there. Obviously, the basics in black can be had from pretty much any store, but for ladies the Simply Vera Wang and Rock and Republic brands both tend to have gems that are goth friendly in their own right or can be easily tweaked to be more of an alternative look. When my husband and I go out, he typically wears a black t shirt, black pair of jeans, and a denim vest that he has DIY'd. Same thing every time.

That's awesome - Kohls is the best! The price on the tag is always less than what it reads. I love running to all the scan points to see how much things really are. Totally agree, they're on point with the goth basics. Everything is so customizable. I got a really cute mini leather backpack and the underwear was 5 for $24 (never have too many of those!). Sounds like our husbands are similar in the fashion dept. Stu got the same pants as Mike and a pair of black jeans and a button down accented by silver zips.

Yeah, I was gonna say, Kohl's actually has some really good finds! And Simply Vera definitely has a lot of gothable items. I have this blouse (it's not Vera, I think the brand is Kandi?) with a deep V-neck, all lace, and an empire waist that I always get compliments on and people are always like, "Where'd you get it??" and I'm like "Kohl's" and they always give me a suspicious and confused look like I'm lying and they'll be like, "Kohl's?????" So it's all a matter of keeping an eye out because every season designers will accidentally (or maybe not so accidentally, WHO KNOWS) make some super gothy/gothable items. Target also has some great finds. Like earlier this summer I found a short burn out velvet dress with a corseted neckline/chest area. Last year, I found a long flowy velvet skirt, a mesh dress, and a really cool knit duster/sweater in the clearance section. I also have some great dusters/sweaters from Ross and Marshall's. So, yeah, all these department stores should never be discounted just because they're not advertising themselves as goth-friendly. And next time I go to Kohl's, I'm gonna have to check out the Rock and Republic brand so thanks for the heads up. I think also people tend to forget that goth (like any other alternative subculture) lends itself for you to get creative with your outfits/clothes: you don't HAVE to wear something the way it's shown on the rack or on the mannequin. Layering is your friend, a skirt can be worn as a dress, a slip dress can be worn as a blouse, shirts can be worn as undershirts and vice versa. Just get crazy, get creative, play around with your outfits/clothes. And always keep in mind that the shirt, skirt, pants, dress, whatever, don't have to be/aren't going to be worn by themselves: what you pair it up with makes a huge difference. Like the black and white dress that Angela saw at H&M, put it on with some fishnet stockings and boots and you've got yourself a Shirley Manson in "Stupid Girl" vibe going on and that, personally, I think is awesome. Which I think is also another thing for the younger generation/ people new to the goth scene (or any subculture) to keep in mind: pull what inspires you, what makes you feel awesome, what you love, what makes you feel warm and fuzzy into your outfits. Yes, the goth aesthetic does have some guidelines, but you don't have to follow all the rules at the same time. Look outside of the goth scene and goth brands for inspiration. It takes time and experience to get the hang of it, to figure out how to "goth up" something, so give yourself time and don't rush it, you'll eventually get there. Trust me, we all stumbled our way through shitty outfits and make-up to get where we are. lol

As an English person I'd like to say a huge thank you for giving a British equivalent (Boots). So many American youtubers don't do that so google is always at the ready. I've never refered to myself as goth although for many years that is what I was. I say was, it's never left me but I change my look all the time and I think that's because i have been lost for the past 15 years and I'm starting to let my inner self shine again. I am moving very soon so I am going to let my younger self out again because thats what made me happy. I should add that I'm 40 now so I lived through the 90s goth era and it was a wonderful embracing scene and I miss the essence of those days x

No worries! I lived in England for around 6 years so I try to remember to mention the UK equivalent. I'm happy to hear that you're coming back into your own. The 90s really were a great time for making connections. Don't get me wrong, I love the internet, my android and smart TV's but without all of those distractions we really came together and forged incredible bonds and made memories.

I don't get the hysteria surrounding bright coloured hair. Around high school age I dyed my hair bright red/pink. When the teachers saw me I was taken out of my class. They set a desk up outside the headmasters office for me to sit at and do ALL of my classes, in view of the whole school. They made an example of me, for all the other kids to see. I was only allowed to attend my classes as normal if I dyed my hair back to a 'normal' colour. After three days of refusing and actually preferring my new desk, I think they gave in and let me keep it and return to class as I have no memory of dying it back. Thinking back it seems like a bit of an over reaction. Luckily I never cared what others thought of me, but singling out a kid like that...that could be really emotionally distressing.

I always do the wave when walking the crosswalk, it is a sign of politeness. I am friendly and thankfull that people let me cross the street. You should try and ride a car in Belgium... People crossing the street, not looking at cars... And visa versa! I once almost got run over by a car because he was driving though the red light. It is sad how many awesome goth clothing stores have shut down. I have to buy everything online now, which sucks with clothes because i want to try them on first. I would kill for another 80's style leather jacket but all the leather jackets these days are dad jackets. I want buckles dammit!!! Hi Angela! I loved this vlog. Could you do a “favorites” video of your favorite make-up & bath products from the 90s to now. What has changed & what has stated the same? For me, I used to use baby powder as “setting powder” to get an extra white effect haha I do not do that anymore. I also used to use Carmex lip balm (why??) and Revlon Blackberry lipstick (black purple color) and sometimes Toast of New York which was a spicy brown color (SO much brown in the 90s!) ❤️ L’Oréal had a wonderful “whipped” ivory foundation cream that was nice too.

I love that idea,i remember in the 90s i use to use a grey liner with purple lipstick to get that more dead look on my lips,and raid most drugstore pencil eyeliners that i would light with lighter to melt the tip of the eyeliner and then use it on upper and lower eyelids.those we're the days, lol 😁

Hi Angela! I'm a freshman in high school. Throughout the summer I really got into your videos and the way you describe the "goth magic" makes me want it so bad and I want to be a part of bringing goth back and bringing back the magic. I live in a town where there are only adult goths and there is no goth scene here either. I transferred to the high school that would most likely have a wider range of people and more Goths. School has been going on for about 3 weeks and I haven't seen any goths and it makes me really sad because I haven't found my people or group yet. I don't want to mold people into something there not for my advantage but i could really see some of my friends being goth and they already have the mindset. But I'm really socially akward and there are no goth clubs here. If you have any tips or if maybe in the future you could go a little more in depth in a video on how to try and share the goth love in the healthiest way possible I would really appreciate it🖤

Would it be weird to befriend the older goths? I never really wanted to mold people, I know it must have looked that way on the outside though! With all the experiences I was having and just the sheer euphoria of being with hundreds of people just like me with music that rips at your soul, I felt like the people at my school were missing out on something amazing and that if they just got a taste, they'd love it. I just wanted to show them and was convinced they'd do the rest. Most of them did! Best I can say, is just befriend some people at school and show them some music or maybe some videos of what the scene is all about. Not right off the bat but if they ask about you and what you're into, it's a good way to show them and it could pique their interest.

Brookelyn Ivy Johnson I’d get to the venue early so that I can either pick the perfect, semi-isolated or the best seat in the house out (or best standing room)... it just gets easier from that point on. My experience has been that Goth clubs are actually some of the clubs with the friendliest people- someone’s bound to come up to you and socialize with you. You might even make a new friend.

Ha Ha I too was a goth converter. I would have a decent line of kids hanging out on the steps of our tiny towns court house freshly transformed to the chagrin of many parents. If you ever gonna travel to germany I've got a couple of good clubs where you can head in to Koblenz - Druckluftkammer Gießen - Scarabee Ranstadt - The black inn Hannover - Absinth lounge Frankfurt am Main - The cave - Final destination These are the clubs I went to before
