okay I'm basically live tweeting at this point. I totally hear you on the overpriced western (specifically USA) brands! I did a ton of vintage shopping when I was in Japan and could NOT find any actual Japanese vintage at the cute curated shops! I only had luck at the random mom-n-pop thrift stores & dondondown! (which had better prices anyways 👀)
@littleeladyyx33 жыл бұрын
I collect and sell vintage clothes, and the reason some of those western brands/clothes are a WAY higher price point, is because in the vintage market right now, details like stitching, tag type & weaves is what adds to the value - because they are determining factors in what time they were made! Also champion has like an affordable line (what's found at Walmart target etc) & a higher quality type (urban outfitters, pac sun etc) but vintage champion is worth a lot because they were made/looked better back in the day! It's kind of insane haha

As someone who grew up in South Carolina, that South of the Border brings back so many memories. Not of actually going, but passing it everytime I went to see my cousins! I thought it was weird seeing a South of the Border bumper sticker when I was in Montreal, but that sweatshirt is so much better 😂😂😂.

I collect vintage jeans, and Japan is the #1 market. Vintage American jeans can fetch quite a high price in the states, but even more so in Japan since there isn't an abundance of this stuff. There is a big denim culture in Japan, and they want to buy the most rare and authentic items, they aren't just buying any old pair of used Levi's. Also consider most of the vintage American jeans come by way of pickers who travel the states to buy vintage, when you factor in the cost of travel, shipping, rarity and mark up that's how you get to those prices. If you think vintage jean prices are bad, just look at the prices for 2000s Era Nike SBs.

It's SO funny the contrast between 2nd hand stores in Japan vs her is the US. As you were panning around telling us about all the name brands, and you see them all out in the open, where you can freely pick them up and look. Here in the US they are locked up in a show case so you have to have an Assistant show you the item LOL The trust and respect culture in Japan is SO refreshing. 🥰

So as I watched this I’m wearing a wrangler brand flannel that’s a shirt jacket kinda like the one you bought. It was $20 in the men’s section of wal mart 😂 I hate wal mart but a blue flannel “shacket” is that what you called it… is a staple of my Texas winter wardrobe

To be fair on the levis, they can be selvedge denim, which is usually more expensive. Japanese copies of 501's can cost a few hundred bucks and worth the price as they will last longer than non selvedge denim.

those champion and levis clothes must be really rare vintage clothes. you can usually get those brand's clothes for like $20-30 for new in Japan. I got levis jeans from the official store and it was around 3000yen. you can get champion sweatshirt for cheap at donki or shimamura!

Some recycle shops in Japan are a completely joke, in my city there’s a Bookoff and the prices of Nintendo switches are more expensive than new ones on Yamada Denki, on the other side of the street. I bought champion shorts for 500en on Aeon Mall another day.

Japanese people are really into vintage American clothes. It's like gold for them. Vintage US is really expensive in Japan, some stuff if they are well estimated are the true prices. They check everything. Where it's made, what stitching it is, when it was made, and the canvas. Levi's big E's are an example. They can be priced very high because they are pretty rare. But Champions sweater priced at 250$ is ridiculous.
@kurisutofusan3 жыл бұрын
The vintage clothes are expensive but maybe it's relative to its age. The $1000 army pants' tag says it's from the 40s and seeing how well preserved it is, maybe it explains it. Not that I would buy it though.

The only way that Levi's jeans can be worth that amount is if it has the old logo (pre-1970s) on the red tag that has a capital 'E' rather than a lowercase 'e'. But judging by the general style and condition of the ones you showed, lol... not a chance they're that vintage.
