it kinda makes me sad that in so many thrift stores prices are going up. it was originally for poorer people, but now more people know about it and are doing it and thats great! but the thing is now prices are going way to high so the people with less money cant afford it. there are some rl cheap ones still, i watched nazjaa and she found stuff for $3 but the majority is going up and that is a shame because we really could be doing something if they stayed low

I agree. But I think the places Nikki is shopping are New York thrift stores but they’re not like the actual thrift stores that are in our hometown‘s. I think they are more of vintage stores. I know of some places in New York that are really cheap and are considered real thrift stores. But as she said here these stores she shopping at are not allowed to put everything out they get they go through and curate everything to make sure it’s on trend. I agree with what you’re saying though and I’ve even sit in my hometown the prices go up but for 30 and $40 I think it’s more of a vintage store.

I've found the same thing. however Mennonite and smaller community thrift stores haven't been contributing as much to the gentrification of thrift stores. If you want/need the regular 1-3 dollar thrift store clothing I'd recommend finding a place in your town/city. places like Value village/savers etc are such large companies that everywhere they are getting more expensive

she shopped at a curated thrift/consignment shop! :) labeling it as a thrift store is kinda misleading in a way but nevertheless, it’s second-hand. you can sell clothing at beacon’s closet like plato’s closet which is one of the reasons why the prices are so high (i’m assuming not completely sure) because they buy the clothes from people and put them out at a higher price to make income + it is curated to stay on trend. actual thrifts/donation stores in the city and all around are priced low. what’s sad is that some people often buy bulks of clothes that they themselves wouldn’t wear, but rather to resell them on apps like Depop for insane prices. like thrifted it for $5 and reselling for $30. i respect the hustle and ofc, all for sustainable clothing but at the same time, like you said, thrifts are a chance for lower income people to find “trendy” clothes in their price ranges and the fact that reselling is making it harder is really disheartening

thats fair, but she also did note in the intro that everything in the vintage shops is quite expensive in comparison to normal thrifting. these brooklyn shops are less thrift stores, more curated vintage.

But at the same time, it’s better for the environment as a whole that more people are choosing thrift shopping over fast fashion. Also, I think thrift stores are expanding in general so there are more options and still places with $5 clothing
