The prices are not very low at the clothing store compared to where i live in America. The food is much cheaper though. Price Smart looks like a Costco, looks identical. Sinsa looks identical to Home Depot or Lowes. They got it very similar offerings in Managua.
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Yes the prices were likely more expensive than the US at Galerias! Pretty surprising. Pricesmart is actually owned by Costco and yes Sinsa is very much like Home Depot.

Hi Paul, thanks again for your suggestions!

As a middle class Nicaraguan I can tell you that these are not the places that most people frequent when buying groceries and appliances 😅 I buy food at MaxiPali the cheapest supermarket, and cheeses and greens at the street market, also Facebook marketplace here is a really popular and a good alternative to look for appliances that are cheaper than sinsa and all busnisses have delivery and the option to pay with bank transactions. It was awesome to see you guys exploring these places and prices!
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Hi jof410, thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience with us. You've confirmed what we suspected that that most people wouldn't use these places to shop. We certainly didn't when we were living in Nicaragua either, mucha plata! We also bought greens and cheese from street markets and street vendors.

We got the foreigner prices at the market. Next time, we will stick to Maxi Pali. If you are a foreigner, go to the Maxi Pali or take a local you trust to the market.

Thanks for visiting Managua and sharing some of what's out there as most people have a limited image of Nicaragua as lacking modern amenities and such. Muchos saludos y quedo esperando su próximo vídeo ✌🏻😎
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Oh really, that's interesting to know! Did you study in the US prior to University? Yes, I think that people who haven't been here would be surprised by what is available. If you arrived blindfolded in Galerias, you would swear that you were in the US or Australia! Although the Spanish signs in the windows might be a bit of a give away! 😜

Hi@@BucketListTravellers, actually I initially studied in Cuba 'cause wanted to study medicine there, BUT after high school, I bailed out and returned to Nicaragua before going to medical school in Italy... after that I moved to Miami with my dad (and studied medicine all over again here in the US) ,😂😅😆 😭😭😭😢😢😢 PS: Is that a gallery-framed portrait of Francisco Hernández de Córdoba wearing VR glasses @ 12:50 ???? Another great video, with so much excellent information! I couldn't believe how flash the Galerias shopping centre is, and how expensive the items were! Price Smart is definitely more our style, but maybe not the $86 Diamond membership 🤔 I haven't seen temperature testing in Portugal, so that was pretty interesting, as was the Insta View fridge! I can't get over how huge and modern these shops and malls were... thank you for sharing this excellent video!
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you liked the video! Yes, we were surprised at Galerias as well, we are also definitely Pricesmart sort of people! That's interesting about Portugal. What is fascinating about Nicaragua is that there have been no mandated guidelines/lockdowns from the government yet businesses and the community have taken matters into their own hands. I'm glad we're not the only Aussies who were surprised at insta view fridges!

I could say that you should go to the very famous "Mercado Oriental", but that's not a place for gringos hahaha, i don't want to feel guilty if you guys get robbed there. To be fair, i've heard that nowadays it's not as bad as it used to be 10 years ago, but the best is not to go without a local friend to guide you.
