I saw these commercials as a kid as I grew up in a northern suburb of New York City, where there are several Orthodox Jewish communities. So I figured that the little guy in the black suit, hat, and glasses was an Orthodox Jew, as were the women since they wore opaque stockings and long dresses. I thought it had something to do with a Jewish holiday where they could only eat food in cans or something. Now, 45+ years later, I a learned that the little guy in the suit is actually supposed to be artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec who painted posters of dancers at the Moulin Rouge where the Can-Can originated. None of this had anything to do with Orthodox Jews. Well, I'm glad that's been cleared up before I croaked!

That is green screen plate where a local advertiser could key in their particular deal. This was known in the ad business as a Generic. But yeah, I get the existential anxiety this causes, otherwise.

So glad you have the originals (the first two), that goes "From apple sauce to zucchini, it's a can can savings spree" (when I was a kid, I thought it was "zookey meat"). In the early 80's, they came out with the disco version (which I'm surprised isn't in there, though others have it) where it became "from can to can to can to can, you'll save much more on every brand", which is what the words have been ever since. For awhile, I couldn't find anything earlier than the disco version.

OMG! "zookey meat" me too. In fact, as this has bugged me for almost 50 years, I was sitting at work and the tune popped into my head and I decided to Googled it just so I can finally figure out what was actually being said. LOL. Glad to see I wasn't alone!

Thanks for posting this. There is (at least) one version that predates the first clip and (going off forty-plus year-old memories) it featured animation of the can-can dancers, but there was no attempt at synching the vocals. The dancers had two poses and the background was a sort of psychedelic Zonk affair.
