Great information! Thank you! Generally when booking excursions I try to use the cruise line vendors. My biggest fear is while the cruise line loves us, they will leave us! That being said, it also depends on the nature of the excursion and the cost. Rule of thumb is always caveat emptor, buyer beware. We booked a helicopter tour through Carnival for the port of Ketchikan Alaska. The port got cancelled due to weather. My refund of about $800 was posted to my on-board account within an hour or so of the port being cancelled. I guess what I am saying is if I am spending a boat-load (pardon the pun) of money on an excursion, I will probably be more inclined to stick with the cruise line. If my investment is not quite that large, I might chance it with a third party after I have done due diligence. Thanks again! Rock on! 😎😎😎

That’s a great point and I completely agree with you. Places like Alaska that you have a chance of cancellation due to weather, which I saw happen several times while I was there with the early morning fog, I would recommend booking through the cruise line. I had unfortunately a glacier excursion cancel and was refunded before we even docked. While the third party can refund you they may not be as quick. I feel like third party excursions are better for less of a high stakes experience, such as a city tour or something close by so you’re not too far from the port. Great feedback, thanks! 😊

IF I book shore excursions they are ALWAYS through the cruise line, one for issues like this and also should your shore excursions arrive late back to the ship, they will hold the ship. This is NOT the case when you are on your own or through a 3rd party.

In my opinion, it cost a little more but go through the cruise line. You have better benefits, if something like this occurs.

It 100% costs more through cruise line in every case. The reason is for the guarantee and vetting vendors to ensure they are legit.

Comes back to that old saying, you get what you pay for. The cruise lines do a great job of covering passengers when these types of things happen, that is just one of the things you get for the money you spend when you book with the cruise line. Not to mention the fact that the ship will not leave you stranded if one of their booked excursions is late returning to port. These things and more are reasons why you don't want to book with a third party vendor or direct if you can. It's just like booking with a travel agent. There is nothing you can get from a travel agent that you cannot do yourself directly with the cruise line only you have control over what is happening. The internet is full of horror stories of people getting scammed out of their cruise by travel agents. In every consumer industry there is always somebody trying to get in the middle to make money off of you. I say tough luck and I don't think you should have focused on Carnival, particularly with the picture of the cruise ship as your background. This happens all the time on all cruise lines and it's not their fault.

Thank you for your feedback. I wasn’t making it to be Carnival’s fault. I simply had their picture because this happened on a Carnival ship to Greenland.
