Haha! It is true with the spinning gear though. I think the main reason being, fast line pickup, which gives more control over the lure.

Awesome spot and with that strong current running is always a possibility that GT’s are around. I too look for these same spots in my part part of the world. Also, you had some nice MJ’s and a barracuda added into the mix as well. Well done mate and Happy Birthday too 🍻

great video! what kind of leader do you use? I have never fished in the indian ocean but will soon make a trip there. i guess barracudas like to bite through the line, so do you also use steel/titanium tips sometimes or does that scare the fish away too much? Thanks in advance

Thank you! I pretty much use 50# fluorocarbon leader. I do not use wire leader and have plenty of Cudas and don't have an issue most of the times. There will be an odd break off here and there and if you're not using using lures made of gold (if you know what I mean), or if you're using a short lure that the Cuda could easily swallow, you don't need a steel leader in my opinion :)

Hey, how diameter shock leader do you use ? He strong vs barracuda? Some time latter I will going to Sri Lanka in passikudah beach , and now I think about my tackles. I would like fishing from the beach and rocks. Thank you.

I normally use 40# fluorocarbon leader. Sometime 50# fluorocarbon leader while fishing from the beach and such. Most times, the barracuda will not break you off if you're fishing a long plug that that like to hit. They could even bite through wire leader. However, my advise would be to used a light leader and a longer plug as the barracuda will try to bit the plug first before swallowing, which means that you're very much likely safe from break offs. Lighter leader helps to hook into many fish. Hope that helps!

There was current, rocks, bait and this was an estuary mouth. That's good enough for me to think that there were big fish in the shallows feeding on bait by ambushing them next to the structure in the current 😊

Thank you! If you're traveling from Welligama to Mirissa, you'll see a bridge in between both the places. You can make a right just before the bridge and get to the place where the estuary meets the sea and that is the place where I was fishing. Good luck and sorry for my late reply.

I was using a 9' surf rod with a Shimano Saragosa 6000 reel. I think it was 50# braid for main line. You can use 3' of 50 or 60# fluorocarbon leader. Hope that helps!
