Nick, we will probably going to expand our 6.5mm offerings, however we have 6.5x47L and 6.5 Creedmoor coming back shortly.

So dumb it down for me if you will. Is this considered a Neck Sizing Die or a Full Length Sizing Die?

Would you still recommend mandrel expanding in addition to resizing? The close tolerances and design of these dies seem address the need to mandrel expand.

Expanding is one of those things that we need to do more testing on. For example, I have done it and I know lots of shooters who prefer to expand. However, I recently did some very limited testing with 20 pieces of 6 BRA brass that was fired, cleaned, and sized in our Precision Resizing Die. The brass that I expanded the necks up with my expander mandrel kit from a very reputable company actually had a higher average and maximum amount of neck runout and bullet runout around the ogive compared to the brass that was sized only in our die with out expanding. So I know I need to do more testing and try different calibers, but I'm currently running all my ammo without expanding. So expanding is one of those things that there can be benefits and it makes sense, however I need to do more testing.

ShortActionCustoms thanks for the quick response. Anything to speed up the reloading process is money I am willing to spend. Lol.

So it is imperative to have an exactly-sized neck bushing that corresponds to your case neck thickness? And dragging a ball or tapered stem back-up through the sized neck stretches or induces runout?

Thank you for your question, the decapping pins that we make are undersized slightly and the inside of the necks should never contact them. For example, our 6mm dies use a 6mm (.236" diameter) decapping pin. If you had .013" thick necks, your loaded ammo would be roughly .269". You would have to go down to a .262" neck bushing with an un-turned neck in order to get the inside of the necks to contact the decapping pin. If you have .013" thick necks and a loaded diameter around .269" you're likely going with .002" to .003" of neck tension so a .266" bushing is what you would need. You would still have around .004" of clearance.

Would the die be strong enough for forming 6mm GT brass from 6.5mm Lapua?
@precisionmachineshed4 жыл бұрын
are the bushings floating or fixed?
@ShortActionCustoms4 жыл бұрын
We have the bushings floating. There is only .003"-.005" of vertical clearance, but there is about double that around the diameter of the bushing.

@@ShortActionCustoms Thanks, They look like really nice dies. I like the collet setup, looks easy and an upgraded design from the others on the market.

Is this just a neck sizing die or full length sizer?
@dahut36143 жыл бұрын
From the product description page- "The base of the cartridge is sized more than a standard die to ensure brass that is “fired and tired” can still be used with out any clicking or sticky bolt close due to enlarged base diameters." So, sounds like it?

Will the bushings be available at the same time as the dies? Or will they be added later?
@ShortActionCustoms4 жыл бұрын
Jeff, we will get the bushings on the website today. Most 6mm sizes are available and in stock.
