"Number 5 is ALIVE." Fun Fact: The sound of Johnny 5's (Tim Blaney) laser firing is the same effect as the Ghostbusters' Proton Packs powering up. Location Location Fact: Filmed in the town of Astoria, OR, where also The Goonies (1985) and Kindergarten Cop (1990) were filmed. Stephanie's (Ally Sheedy) house still exists and is located in Astoria. In November of 2019 it sold for $340,000. Casting Notes Fact: In this film and Short Circuit 2 (1988), Johnny 5's voice was provided by puppeteer Tim Blaney. This casting decision was made due to the director's belief that real-time interaction with the robot prop would make the interaction seem more natural on-screen than if they edited his voice in during post-production. Movie Magic Fact: Many of the little tricks done by Johnny 5 (Tim Blaney) on-screen (like flipping through book pages in a blink of the eye and tossing a washer into the air in a mimic of a scene from an old gangster movie he saw) were done using relatively simple, yet ingenious slight-of-hand prop effects. For instance, the pages were flipped using an air hose, while the washer was flipped using a piece of string at both ends sideways. Not only did this save money for the producers for the actual robot and the screenplay, but they proved to be remarkably effective in getting just the right look needed for the scenes.

I love it when I’m able to find channels like yours, I know that I’m going to get a reaction to a movie through the filter of someone who is my age. I find it refreshing, and a little comforting, when someone is reacting to a movie from the 80’s, and they were actually alive, and remember when the movie came out, even if they haven’t seen it. Long story short, as someone who is an early 80’s kid like J, March of 82, I love it when you do reactions to movies, like this one and it’s sequel, both of which are nostalgia movies for me, that I remember seeing in the theaters when they came out. I especially liked your reaction to Raising Arizona & The Princess Bride, they are my absolute top two favorite movies of all time. Some other movies from the 80’s that are some other favorites of mine to varying degrees, that I think are worth checking out if you haven’t seen them yet; Harry and the Hendersons, Moonstruck, Roxanne, A Fish Called Wanda, Masters of the Universe, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, & Little Shop of Horrors.

Same, though ours had ninja turtles, too! 😅 I...didn't enjoy every moment of childhood, of course, as our household was too messed up for that. But damn if Johnny 5 sure as hell seemed to know how to live -- and live it better than a lot of the adults around me! 😃He had me watching this movie over and over! I love that these movies can be like that. If the doors of your life are closed, and if the people around you see eagerly grabbing ahold of and enjoying life as "annoying", stories like these can open windows ...to show that not _everyone_ thinks the same way.
