Hey folks ! New track. And an inside to how I made it and what's my thought process behind making my music. I recorded this time everything with my phone, as my camera was acting weird and didn't autofocus me. The sound is also mostly recorded in to my phone mic, and to clean it up I have used a bit of AI, so it sounds slightly robotic, so I layered it with the original audio but whatever, it stills gets the message across.

Ah ! The fact that you would mostly listen to old school tapes probably contributed to why your sound is such a great reproduction on that 93/94 Jungle sound. Your drums are spot on as usual ! Perfect sound, the amen really hits nicely. I used Fruity Loops once upon a time aswell (early version) and at the time i didn't appreciate how easy it was to compose on, because back then we didn't even accept software as being good enough yet lol. I think your finished track sounds just as good without doing it all through hardware, but i think that processing the drums through the Akai makes all the difference. Cheers Ijo !

Hey ! To be honest, I don't even listen to jungle at all 😁I listen to jazz, downtempo, ambient.. But not jungle. If I am being honest - I don't even like jungle that much anymore except a few bits and pieces that I might listen to in the car if I feel like. But I like making it. And when it comes to jungle, i generally like the "sound" of early stuff, which I wanted to achieve my whole life when I was a lot younger.. And I am finally able to do so, for my self. And i like sharing that with all of you, because when I was growing up, I had nobody to talk about any of this , everything I know I had to figure out my self and it took a lot of time.

@@IJOSoundVideo Interesting :) "because when I was growing up, I had nobody to talk about any of this , everything I know I had to figure out my self and it took a lot of time." - is this about not having access to producers and perhaps not having a Jungle scene where you was ?
@IJOSoundVideo

@@bontempo1271 correct. While growing up, nobody i knew was making music, well I had a friend, who made some house, but nobody was into jungle at all, and there was no jungle scene (and still is non in Lithuania), and i definatelly had no access to producers, heck, internet wasn't even a thing, it was way before any of that. So it was just me, listening to jungle tapes i recorded from a radio, and was trying to recreate all of it on my then pentium computer running windows 95 and early fruity loops and cubase :) Which led me to find my own ways of making music which I am very happy about. I can make music in many different ways, using many different techniques and different gear and programs with my closed eyes in seconds 😎

@@IJOSoundVideo I love this story not only because the music struck a chord with people so far and wide, but because it's also the tale of how music like Jungle came about. Not having access to the music industry at all, not even enough equipment, but the guys were driven to make the music and created their own movement completely sepearate from the mainstream. Guys broadcasting from vacant flats, guys making tracks in their bedrooms, guys creating and promoting their own events. They created an entire scene and movement on their own. And 20+ years later that sound is still being enjoyed around the world.

Love that track and the sound through the desk, how do you find this mixer vs the cr1604 you used to use?
@IJOSoundVideo
@IJOSoundVideo 4 ай бұрын
Hey ! Well, the Mackie had a bit more punch, which is what they're famous for. At the time I was using it, I was missing few things like hi pass filter, and sweapable mid EQ band.. I got Soundfcraft just because there were no other option for mixers where I live, and I just went with that. It's not bad, more channels would be great. The Lexicon effects are totally rubbish, and I only use 1 of the 2 delays, In fact, i don't even touch the settings for it, it's just always the same on every track :) I am not that much bothered by the gear, like I used to be, back then I was selling and buying stuff constantly as I always thought something might be better, which is stupid.. Everything is good, when you have something to say. A laptop with simple DAW might just be totally fine if one knows how to use it :)

mate Analog Lab is so good! cool to see you using that for some pads. it's interesting what you say about short form music though. with jungle production I always find it difficult to make tracks over 3 minutes without it feeling too stale (the genre is so old at this point that it kind of feels like everything has been done if we aren't mixing in other genres or branching out too far), and I suppose I could make distinct switchups in songs like you do, but perhaps I could just try making some EPs/projects with shorter tracks that all flow into each other to create one larger overall piece that maintains a certain 'vibe' throughout. not sure, but thanks for giving me something to think about! great tunes coming from you as always. your use of the apache break in Rhodes to Reason is one of my favourite jungle tunes ever for sure

As an artist it really is up to us to how we make our art. But, checking in with reality and what people want might be a good thing when it comes to "business", you know ? Trying to mix art with a little bit of business might do the trick, especially in this time and age, it is not the 90s anymore and things work very differently. Something i had to study and adjust my mind to, but I don't mind. I find it to be a very interesting game after all :)

when people say its all been done it makes no sense to me. if anything its like people barely scratched the surface. it all pretty much sounds the fucking same. too much purism and lack of individualism in electronic music i think
@IJOSoundVideo
@IJOSoundVideo 4 ай бұрын
@@morrisalanisette9067 the thing is, back in the 90s everyone had their own sound, now everyone sounds the same. I am trying to pick the best parts i like from what has been done before, like certain sounds, but then make em sound like ME. I have done so much crazy stuff back in the day that's just a bit too experimental for anyone, even me, listening back to my early work. Me sticking to jungle is a very conscious decision , but also very limiting. So after many years of being way too serious about my music, I'm literally just having fun with it and i care very little about it anymore, meaning I don't take it seriously anymore.
