Wow - 4 years ago I made this little film and honestly everyone’s comments have been fascinating. Positive or negative, as a filmmaker I really did learn a lot from all of your feedback over the years. So, thank you to all those who took the time to comment. :) For you filmmakers out there (or anyone who is generally interested) here are some key lessons I learned in making this film; 1. If you’re going to be the director AND cinematographer, make sure you find a camera operator. 2. If it doesn’t add to the story/scenario CUT IT. 3. If you’re going to make a film set in the dark, make sure you can black out everything that needs to be dark. 4. Make sure props are being used correctly, IE mobile phones are the right way up! 5. Pacing in the edit is CRUCIAL. 6. A good sound editor will improve your film 100% 7. You don’t have to explain EVERYTHING that happens - sometimes its fun for the audience to come to their own conclusions. 8. It’s okay if people don’t like your film. :) Take the lessons, make something better! If anyone has any thoughts or questions, please feel free to ask! Thank you all - you’re awesome. :)

📍You did a great job and thanks for the lessons, it’s always good for people to give positive feedback and things that work for them. I liked it a lot, only thing was I feel like she should’ve been more scared of the thing when she first saw it? But she could’ve thought she was in the dream, since she did not hear the newscast. But overall really nice I loved the lighting, dream like Twilight to it!!!👏👏👏👏👏

Well, I don't agree with the negative reviews. I watch loads of horror, and I like the mix of horror/sci fi. I liked that you started with a newscast, so that we knew this wasn't happening in the protagonist's head--that something odd really was going on. And I liked that it started and ended mysteriously. In life, we don't always get clean explanations. And the only time I expect one is when the film is set up to head that way. When there is some attempt to "make sense" of what is happening, and then at the end it's left hanging, that's unacceptable. But you start right off by saying "don't expect any clean explanations--some weird shit happened, is happening, and is going to still be happening at the end, or wrapped and unexplained." I also like how the lighting wasn't just dark, but that odd purple twighlight that kept it in a timeless mode. Even as she looks at the clock to see 4:30--is it 4:30 just a few hours later, or well into the wee hours now? Has she fallen asleep or just been waiting? I also thought the ending was unexpected. ***SPOILER*** I really thought "Oh OK, she's going to kill her friend." And then it turns out she did the right thing to kill "her friend"--except, as it turns out, it wasn't actually dead. The one thing that didn't work for me--and I apologize for not being more film-making savvy, but the scene where she struggles with the door wasn't suspenseful or frightening to me. I have had this experience with movies before where a particular commonly used tool--such as this one, where a character is fighting with *something* on the other side of a door--sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, and I can't really tell you how some film makers get it to work and some seem to use that same gimmick, and it evokes nothing in me that I know it should. Maybe someone with more experience on the film making side can add to that? Overall, I liked it. I liked the plot twists there at the end that surprised me, and the feeling of being "cornered" by the virtue of being trapped in her small apartment, while outside, it seemed the entire world had suddenly become unsafe and unpredictable/unknown. It had a very claustrophobic feel to it that added to the desperation.

This was beautifully crafted. Yes, it does leave unanswered questions however, that was the beauty behind this particular short film. You knew exactly what she knew. Nothing more and nothing less. Add in proper use of audio to build tension and what you have is a short horror film that does "suspense" very well. Extra points for not using one single jump scare (and boo to those expecting a cheap scare).

i agree im 40y.o. also and into horror gore genre also hard to please but also very open minded to certain situations and what many seem to forget or not remember or notice or plain stupid to see is that we are not looking at a billion dollar box office movie playing in all theaters. Even though critizism is helpful to many, and in cases like this it may help this producer/camera man or girl/director reach its potential and be able to see one day his movies on billboards...thats if its his/her goal. But please people when trying to be a critique about it take mind that there is a human being with goals aiming to do their best and when you make fun of someone also known as bullying you can break dreams hopes and aspirations. With this I end sending hugs kisses and best wishes to all big small short or tall. ✌

When she ran at the door, I knew it was just headlights. Then when she stabbed the thing, I gasped, and legit cries out "Oh no! I know who that is! Ben!!" Then she saw Been and I was like "the Monster, girl, behind you! I'm rooting for you!" Then when it ended I was like "such a twist!" Lol. Great short! Loved it!
@OuroborosWorm9 жыл бұрын
The film had a great atmosphere, and I loved the 'monster' designs; however the acting was unnatural, slow and she didn't really seem too bothered looking out the window at a supernatural sky and a disturbing being. The sound design was also mostly good but the knocking at the door is horrible, couldn't you just have recorded real knocking rather than hitting a monotone tom drum over and over? Overall it was nice though! In my opinion atmosphere is the most important factor in making horror.
@annecohen89274 жыл бұрын
Alien monsters are the most horrifying creatures known to exist in this film.... it blows the mind. If she was awake and listened to the news, I guess she would know that the planet she's living on, Earth is being attacked by monstrous aliens and that they were traveling by huge spaceships that blocked the sun.. Makes you wonder how many possible life out there that might NOT be so friendly. Maybe the next time I see an alien, is to smile and wave 'hi, I'm a very meek human in need of companionship.'

I could feel her anxiety by being trapped from an evil unknown entity lurking outside. Also, thought the ending was great. At first, I thought she had killed her significant other, and had a mental breakdown....but then she saw her real significant other and the alien/evil entity morphed into monster and that's all she wrote😈☠

Here I will point out some of the dumb choices: Holding her phone upside down, when she sees the demon standing there staring instead of running, reaching for a knife instead of locking the doors, getting a glass of water instead of locking the doors, sitting on the floor doing nothing instead of locking the doors, lighting a candle instead of locking the doors, NOT LOCKING THE DOORS, "Oh there is someone in the doorway that I can obviously see is a normal person, better stab him!", Looking behind herself instead of running when she saw the dead body of the person she thought was behind her. Now for the dumb terrible acting spots: Smiling while she thought she murdered ben, Smiling while being murdered, Smiling while screaming, Smiling through the entire film... And finally the predictable spots. "Let me just reach for this knife while trying to fight off an evil demon, oh shoot I cut myself!" Ben being at the door, It not really being ben, Her stupidity.

I hate to be the party pooper, but uh ... that door was made of glass, and the entire house had more glass than a fucking mirror factory. Why didn't the antagonist just kick it's way through any of the other routes of entry? The entire narrative rests on 'the door' being the sole point of entry, which just DOESN'T work unless she were in a basement or a loft.
