That's about what we look like up here in NW Washington right now. I walked to work last night when it was starting to snow. On the way home this morning I had to walk 3 miles through unbroken thigh-deep snow (I'm 6'4") wearing boots. I'm 62 years old! I'm wore out! LOL! We haven't had snow like this in 25 years. Thanks for standing out in the cold letting us watch with you. I usually catch you quick when you upload. It's nice. Those 3 at the end had a bit of a trip ahead. This PC monitor gives me just about all the train action I get since I live 40 miles from the nearest tracks which makes me appreciate your cold hands even more. Thanks a lot, JT. See y'all soon.
@JawTooth3 жыл бұрын
40 miles to the nearest tracks! Wow, that is a long way. I'm glad to have you watching my videos. We are going to get up to 8 more inches within the next 3 days so I will be out there getting more snow videos. This is the most we have had since 2008. I'm going to keep a shovel in my truck. lol

They used to make us watch winter activity safety videos when I was a MOW Mechanic. Rule 1 is when you’re working on tracks where there are multiple parallel tracks, you always have a designated lookout to make sure you don’t foul adjacent tracks while working, most especially during winter snow events. It only takes one little power tool to mask the sounds of an approaching trail during a snow storm. Even the horn can be inaudible until it’s too late for you to move out of the way.

I’m so glad you got out for this video. Not sure when I will be able to get out again. Other than one short line through Nanticoke which may or may not have one train on a given day, it is about 40 miles to the nearest CN main line, and right now winter has a grip on us with the polar vortex.

The orangee and black originated with the Genesee and Wyoming shortline, about fifty miles south of Rochester, NY. They served the Retsof salt mine for decades, until it flooded and the salt supply was gone. (Guess I can't say it dried up!) G&W started buying other short lines, and now owns many of them. They even own(ed) at least one in England, although I haven't heard about it in years. Now there is a newer, bigger mine in Mt. Morris, NY and they are back in the big time salt hauling business!
