It's eye opening when you see just how much is involved in putting a train together. If we added in the loading of the grain cars - that would be a long video! Thanks for braving the cold and snow!

Hi JT, those switch men earn their money, lots of shoveling involved to clear the switches. Thanks for posting, great video. Keep warm. Edward

That was an impressively long train there, Jaw Tooth, CSX will be absolutely delighted with that one, just as we have been absolutely delighted with this excellent video. Thanks for the fantastic video and for braving the cold for us, it is well worth the trouble you go to.

A dispatcher friend who worked for SOO recalls the time he put a grain train in the siding as a blizzard was starting in ND. The crew reminded him for years about how much fun it is pulling out 5 cars at a time with snow packed around the discharge chutes. Glad to see you haven't hit those drifts.

That line looks like one near me; basically storage track. I think a lot of these short lines are surviving on storing rolling stock for the class 1 lines.
@pulaski13 жыл бұрын
Have you seen the East Terminal Railway channel? kzbin.info/door/ZDPxlyQo-gRMKJJxDIM7BQ They recently (late 2020) bought some sort of previously abandoned short line. I don't know that they have ever said _how_ short, but AFAIK they have only ever shown about 1,000 ft of track, so I suspect their short track may be little more the some sidings - I think they have two switches so perhaps as few as three lines total. Anyway their stated business model is to use the tracks for storage in "phase 1", then get to repairs of the cars in phase 2, and I think that is all they've ever said. They would have to get lucky with someone on land adjoining their track ever wanting to get _actual_ railroad service, and that has to be rather unlikely.

Thanks for enduring the cold for the video. For such weather, consider cutting the fingertips off gloves as others have suggested or get some photographer's with fingertips that can be opened or closed. Also consider a tripod for cold long shots. You can't move as much but you can rest your hands and try to keep them thawed. 73.

11:15 "You can't really wear gloves while you're doing this." I find that "glittens" are really good for photography. Stupid name but they're basically a fingerless glove with a mitten-like pocket that you can either cover your fingers with or fold it back out of the way. When I use my camera in the snow, I find I can just poke a couple of fingertips out of the mitten and everything else stays warm. Bet that'd wrk with a phone, too. You can also get gloves with conductive pads on the fingertips that are supposed to work touch screens, but the one pair of those I had never really worked.
