Your hint about the amount of spin here is priceless! I always tried to maximise the spin, and it made hiding it and switching very difficult to me. My movement was so pronounced it was easy to read and when I tried to hide it I was making mistakes. Now with easy spin it 's a different story: the movement for top and back looks almost similar. I realised that at a lower level a heavy spin on serve works well even if it's obvious, but at a higher level it's more effective to hide it well and keep them guessing. Thanks a lot!

The topspin serve is not 100% topspin like a forehand loop, but a side-spin serve, but is not a backspin for sure. The top spin is done by contact over the ball forward. With the raise elbow it a combination of side spin and top spin. If you change the angle a little bit and raise the elbow you can increase the top spin

Nice! Do u have the reverse pendulum tutorial as well? I’ve tried it but a lot of times it either doesn’t get enough sidespin or it goes into the net

Thanks! Glad you’re able to find it helpful for your game! I love to use this serve right out the gate because most players start slow with backspin so the topspin serves can catch people unprepared. It also gets me right into the topspin rally which I love 😄

Thanks, I serve this a lot but also loss some points because of my poor 3rd ball return. Please can you explain the various expected return to this serve and how to play the 3rd ball. When my opponent push or chop the ball, it comes high with little or much backspin, occasionally I do hit the 3rd ball into the net.
@TableTennisJunkie4 жыл бұрын
Hi Azibalua! Thanks for watching! The expected return depends a little bit on your opponent, but generally I would say to prepare for a topspin return after any topspin serve. The reason for this, is because it will be the easiest and most effective shot for the opponent. Topspin also moves faster than backspins so you’ll have less time to prepare for the topspin return. If your opponent decides to push the topspin serve there are a few things you'll want to be aware of and do. The first thing to be aware of is the ball will have a LOT of backspin on it. I like to call it a “double backspin” because when somebody pushes a topspin the ball continues to spin in the same direction and the backspin will be very heavy. When somebody pushes the topspin serve, the ball tends to move slowly and sits over the table so you will want to stay close to the table for the 3rd ball. If it’s high (shoulder height or higher) you can generally hit through it but if the ball is low then you’ll just want to try to get your legs under it and loop it if the ball comes long or push it if it comes back short. Remember the “double backspin” because the ball will be very heavy and do your best to open your racket and/or lift to keep the ball out of the net. Hope this info helps!

Double backspin is gold! A question though, you said you can hit through if the double backspin is shoulder high? That means hitting the ball at 3 o clock then flat through?

Thanks for the feedback! but I'm not sure what you mean? Can you elaborate a little more of what you are hoping to see so I can do better in the future? Maybe you cut away too soon? I start to show different angles starting at 3:50. Does this show what you're looking for here?

It's a great racket and will grow with you as you improve. amzn.to/302oL4N If you're looking for something a little cheaper and that you can get before Christmas, you might want to look at something like this one > amzn.to/3n7l7Qt Hope this helps!

I have been doing more brushing up motion with same angle degree of backspin pendulum serve than urs doing. But I wonder why it cant be topspin. It always goes backspin instead of topspin. It is showed backspin when I did just little brush ball sticking with racket without doing serve. I get topspin when I do like you, but urs shows backspin when I do little brush ball sticking with racket. Do you know why? Thanks ☺
@TableTennisJunkie3 жыл бұрын
I plan to cover this in detail during my next video, but to get topspin on the pendulum serve you'll need to pull up with your racket at contact. You can do this with any angle as long as you are pulling up with the racket. The first thing I try to do is imagine the way the ball needs to spin in order for it to have topspin on it. Then I think of creative ways to get the ball to spin in that direction. The same goes for backspin. It is good think about how the ball needs to spin for it to have backspin on it and then hit it in a way that will create that spin. For the pendulum serve, you'll want to either have a flat racket and stay under the ball at contact or else come down the back of the ball. You can do a combination of these two things as long as you are brushing the ball and making it spin in the backspin direction. Hopefully this answers your question but stay tuned for the next episode because I'll be going into more detail with it!

i like the pendulum topspin serve, but the only caveat i really dont like about some secret serves, is when you sacrifice the quality of your serve for a advantage in suprise, like yes, a topspin of the same motion as the backspin is good, but its a weak topspin, ik its meant to be so your opponent pushes your backspin, so they'll push the topspin, but if they know, they know. so i always try to push the topspin serve so its quick and focused on the placement rather than the spin, because that way you can change the tempo of your serve

seems like it might be fairly easy to notice the elbow to know if it's top vs back spin
