I took the Boeing 787-9 for the first time last week and something unexpected happened : an aborted takeoff !
Social media

✈️ information:
Airline: LOT polish airlines 🇵🇱
Aircraft: Boeing 787-9
Registration: SP-LSC
Age: 3.2 years old
Takeoff from : runway 33 at Warsaw Chopin airport (WAW)
To: Heraklion 🇬🇷
Taken on: 1st August 2021
Seat number: 4A
Taken with : IPhone 7
Livery : special Poland independence livery
Reason of the rejected takeoff is unclear : The captain told us it's was due to weather problems which I believe it's was a lie because there's plane taking off during our waiting period for the brake to cool down then an aircraft maintenance came... Later I was told by a WAW spotter that they heard that the captain told to the ATC that there's a technical problem.
UPDATE : the reason of the rejected takeoff was due to a problem with the right engine ! Source : www.aeroinside...
Please notice that I didn’t talk in this video, it was spoken by my friends Lukas !

@@osomeric3277 V1 is the speed at which they should not abort the takeoff. Otherwise as you say, they will not safely make it before the end of the runway. Otherwise, likely the math was wrong and then that's another issue entirely. But you'll have to have a damn good reason to do so.
@guitarheaven1747
@guitarheaven1747 Жыл бұрын
@trilight3597 No it's correct, V1 as such is a decision speed that counts in a 2 second buffer to react, plus for dry runways, it's calculated without the use of reverse thrust, so logically if you then use it, the stopping distance will decrease. That at reaching V1 take-off can't be aborted anymore is more of an airline safety and also cost-saving instruction, but if you react within those two seconds (if you count in reverse thrust probably three), you are still fine aborting a take-off after V1, and the calculations are correct

Whats V1
@jarekferenc1149
@jarekferenc1149 Жыл бұрын
@@yousryyou6859 V1 is the threshold speed for an aircraft. If the aircraft on the runway has the speed below V1, the pilots can reject takeoff and stop the aircraft safely on the runway. If the speed is higher than V1, the pilots MUST CONTINUE the takeoff and make the aircraft airborne at any cost. Rejection of takeoff above V1 will cause that the aircraft stops beyond the runway, which may cause damages to the structure or danger to people. V1 is calculated before each takeoff, taking into account the total mass of the aircraft, wind speed and direction, available runway length, temperature etc.

@@jarekferenc1149 It can be rejected above v1 if there is no way to get the plane up. I read an article where the elevator control surfaces were locked in the full nose down but the pilots had no way to know because their stick still moved freely. They didn't know until they got to rotate speeds. They decided to attempt to abort the takeoff. They were going to overrun the end either way but aborting the takeoff meant they did it at a much slower speed.

Me noticing you not noticing the video correctly, I'll tell you where you went wrong The plane just crossed the threshold of the runway they were taking off from (and not the opposite runway as you observed), meaning they literally came to the start of the runway like few seconds before the rejected takeoff.. You can tell this by seeing that where they cross the threshold, the taxiway there joins the runway in the direction of the runway (a taxiway near the end of any runway wouldn't point towards the shorter side of the runway) And the papi lights you mentioned in your comment are standardly located on the left hand side of the runway, so in conclusion, the plane had PLENTY of runway left, literally the whole of it
