Can you make a dedicated video on how to measure inseam? I measure by spreading my legs on average of seat width and measure the vertical length, by that technique I have 31" inseam (5'8" height barefoot). I don't know whether this is correct technique or not.

I'm using the "cop mount"' to get on my bike. With the bike on the kickstand, you put your right foot on the right foot peg. It may help to turn the handle all the way to the left, first, for balance. Then, staying close to the bike, stand on the right foot peg and swing the left leg over. Tip 2: don't ever let tall people tell you what you can and cannot do! Edit: where I said handle to the right, I meant left... I'm sorry. I get this mixed up all the time 🙄 but hey, you'll get it because you know the words: practice practice practice ;-)

You should learn both cop and cowboy mount. Depending on the tilt of the bike, you may not want to get on one side or the other. Geography matters. Learn both ways so you have options.

@@x-man5056 what is the difference?
@x-man5056
@x-man5056 Жыл бұрын
@@caseycoleman394 Cop mount is on right side, Cowboy on the left. I have gripey L hip. I usually use the Cowboy because only discerning eye even notices. My bike has both pipes on right side but if there was something in my way of left side, I go to right side. If you parked on a slight slant to the right, the Cop mount may get weird because the bike is too strait up and down. Biggest problem I have with either of them is to remember to do it, particularly dismounting.

If you’re a short rider(like me. 5.6 with a 25” inseam)(looong torso)and you decide to go out and try these techniques, you’ll find that they are very difficult and awkward. Guess what? “SHUTUP AND PRACTICE”. You’ll be SO glad you did. Put in the time. Be willing to fail in order to improve. These skills are truly the difference between believing you are limited to a “short” list of bikes of a certain seat height, and riding any bike you want. Great video! Thank you for all you do!

Interesting tips. I must say that that for my 169cm height (5' 6'') tall seat height is a deal breaker as every stoplight would bring added anxiety to the one experienced focusing on potential threats (distracted drivers) from behind. The latest ADV from Harley introduces interesting tech which automatically lowers the bike at a stop - this kind of innovation could bring closer shorter riders like myself to a lot of different taller models. Cheers

@caseycoleman394 not sure about other kind of bikes but on dirt bikes and dual sports it's really easy, just remove the staples holding the seat cover and you'll have access to the foam underneath and you literally just reshape the foam with a knife or a foam cutter or something

I had that crf 250L rally for two years. I am vertically challenged. I got on and off that bike with kickstand down. I would grab the front brake to prevent the bike moving forward which of course would suck. Then I simply hopped on the peg and threw a leg over. Maybe it was bad to put my weight on the side stand like that but like I said It worked fine for me for 2 years owning the bike. Off on the same way. Grab the brake and use the peg to climb off and on.. IDK that worked for me and seems a bit less scary then trying to hop on while the bike is in motion....

I agree and disagree with lowering the Bike, I agree that you shouldn't use lowering links or mess up with the front forks in the triple clamps, but since you mentioned RaceTech they can lower your bike in the CORRECT Way by lowering your suspension internals without upsetting any geometry of the bike and they do really amazing things. they can literally lower your motorcycle as much as you want.

I'm 5 foot 4 inches with about 28 inches inseam (on a 30.7inch seat). My "instructor's" advice: "it is going to be a problem". No shit, I knew that, but it is not really hard once you get used to it. A very simple but crucial tip is to relax. The first time I rode a bike I was very tensed up and it made the floor unreachable. Once I relaxed (after 1-2 hours on the bike) I could reach the floor with one foot (mostly the ball of my foot) easily. Be comfortable sliding left to right on the saddle. You only need one foot down! It might be left or right depending on situation. Practice, practice, practice! I'm not sure if complex dismounting tequniques (used mostly in bicycles) are good for a begginer.

Doesn't work for countries like India where you're stuck in crawling traffic that requires you to have your feet down a million times. Thick sole boots comprise our only ally. in the last tip, after putting the kickstand down you can dismount normally after coming to complete stop and tilt the bike to the left. No need to jump to the left side, just my preference. My Tenere was just a bit tall and top heavy and after 3 tip overs it was time to get it lowered . Then at the 600 mile service I had the dealership install Motoz Tractionator ADV tires and the bike is back at stock height with those nobbys , haha . Eventually with more experience I will bring it back up to stock height . I would definitely change those seats on the Honda you , the one you got looks way more comfortable .

@@fanaticcoder3320 It's true . I have seen guys with really short torsos so it goes that way too . When I got on a DRZ400 a few years ago when checking out that and the DR650 I thought no way this tall for my 1st bike . But these taller lower cc bikes are a hundred pounds less or more and that helps compensate when dealing with it leaning at an angle . Haha, This is my life on normal bikes! I have my bike lowered, handlebar risers and the big chunky boots. It's all very well saying don't do that, but to get confident it's been necessary. They wouldn't sell lowering kits if it made bikes dangerous. Yes the boots are a pain, and yes the lever changing is harder, I've now had the lever adjusted so it's higher up. My legs are only 26 inches max. It's great if you can just do what you do, but if you're not confident to ride like that, then the other things are ok!

Had a CRF250L Rally and it was pretty good (first bike). Got bad gas (wrecked everything mechanical) and life circumstances ended it to soon :( I would stand on the peg on the kickstand side to swing my leg over.

I thought about shaving my seat but the angle to the pegs is quite acute as it is so I didn't go for that. Just got a rally raid lowering kit 20mm combined with boot inserts should do the trick!

Don’t be afraid to hop off the bike and push it around to maneuver in tight spots where taller riders might duck-walk the bike. If someone heckles you for doing it, they are putting their poor character on display for everyone to see, it says nothing about you or your skills. I have a 28 inch inseam, I ride an BMW R1250 GSA daily. There is a whole toolbox full of skills for short riders on tall bikes. You want to see those skills in action get some dirt on your tires. Even average size guys have to use these skills on dirt bikes. And, learning to ride off-road will help your on road skills.

I'm 5'4" and I ride a KTM 790 Adventure R with seat height almost 35". I have to do all of these techniques in order to be able to ride it. I get looks at stop lights but so what? They're stuck in a cage while I'm out riding!

4:23 I've tried to do that stop on a red light on another bike.. Imagine this, I'm on a WR250R which is taller than the CRF250L Rally that you're on. I have a 29 inch inseam on a good day, and on top of that, the bike has a taller custom seat. What do you think I had to do? lol Btw I've done the get on and get off techniques except for the kickstand down while getting off.

you decide where to stop, yes? stop in the best place to have the most control..maybe put your other foot down vs the left.

@@MotoJitsu I'll tell you what I had to do, that was at least a year ago now and it was a friend's bike. When I first arrived at the stop light, I placed the back of my knee to the corner of the seat and put my foot down, by the time the tip of my foot hit the ground, the bike was already leaning towards me so that was a faceplant on asphalt. After that, I looked for curbs. If I see the light changing, even if I'm far, I had to slow down right away and look for a curb. If I'm too close to the light, screw it, I'll go through the red light. In an instance where I'm surrounded by cars, I would use the car tires in place of a curb. Luckily, nobody was too offended and tried to move their car.

Greetings from Ireland Eddie thanks for sharing the knowledge it's really appreciated. I was once told that if you couldn't have both feet flat or near enough when on the bike that maybe it wasn't a good idea to ride that bike, your balance and ability to control the machine in certain situations especially in traffic would be compromised. Would appreciate your thoughts..

Sorry to post this random question but I am not sure how to contact you any other way. I like your content and style of teaching. Thank you for all you do to help others learn. I have a rather basic question and I cant seem to find much content on this specifically. What is the preferred method of coming to a controlled stop at a stop sign or stop light? This may be rather simple, but I would like to know a couple of situations in this type of stopping. Do both feet come down? If you know you are going to make a left or right, when do you turn the handle bars? Keep hand on brake (to keep brake light on for those behind you). What if on an incline/decline. Yes, it seems basic, but I want to learn what seems best and best for me rather than adopting bad habits.

Dirt bikes should have air suspensions that you could lower by pressing a button. My neighbor had a Citroën car that would do that back in the sixties, why isn't that possible sixtie years later.😉

If it's a slanted road you put the foot down that is on the higher side of the incline. If the pavement is wavy (like valleys from tire wear), line up your bike in the low spot so the foot you put down lands on the peak.
