Worth mentioning that SnapTap and similar functions from other companies are already being banned in many competitive shooters, and in terms of Anticheat-detection these types of inputs are easily detected, Don't buy products based on software features that are subject to change. The real benefit to these keyboards is for the people who don't like buying new products often, as the, Avg. Rated Presses for Optical/Hall Effect Switches make the numbers for Mechanical Keyboards look like a joke and Membrane Keyboards which already were far behind Mechanical now don't even qualify as Also-rans. With that said, I'm a bit skeptical about the addition of Silicone sound dampening in this keyboard, as when it inevitably deteriorates it could lead to uneven feeling and sounding keypresses, and maybe even interfere with the optical sensors, doing the complete opposite of what it was "designed" for, since this isn't a custom keyboard where the user is intended to be able to replace and repair parts of it, this has the potential to harm the longevity and vibe of what would be an otherwise long-lasting product. Probably better off going with one from Keychron, Wooting or Razer if Optical/Hall-Effect Keyboards are something you're interested in right now, but you're not wanting to go full custom.

I've used a few Corsair keyboards and they've always had too many compromises that are very evident long term. They are doing creative and good things with their design and technology but the price and compromises keep me from staying with them long term. I stay with keychron for the most part. They're priced right, almost no compromise, and they let you customize the keyboard where a company like Corsair will either not let you, or lock that behind a pretty high cost to entry keyboard. I think the main stream companies that are making these boutique keyboards need to see the actual competition and what they are doing, what they're letting consumer do to their keyboards and the price they're selling those keyboards for.

Yes, it gives you a competitive edge but so do high refresh monitors for example. should we ban 60+ fps monitors just because they give you an edge? should we ban good headsets because they give you an edge? what about high polling rate mice? maybe also ban high end GPUs because playing at higher FPS gives you an edge? you get the idea. At what point do we draw a line on what is allowed and what is not?

High pull rate hall effect keyboards have been big in the rythm game (esp OSU) for a good few years now, not to mention any number of single player/less competitive games. Don't get me wrong I still think something from Wooting who pretty much does just HE boards is a better move than investing in a Jack of All trades oem like corsair for this more niche market. Regardless let's not posture as if folks are cheating just because they own gear that utilizes tech that has perfectly innocuous use cases along side its nefarious ones
@EthanObiАй бұрын
Hall-Effect/Optical Switches are amazing tech for keyboards, the longevity of them are leaps and bounds above Mechanical. With Membrane Switches being found dead in a ditch down the road. The problem is Companies are trying to jump on the SnapTap/Rappy/Tappy/RapidTrigger/insertSoftwareBasedInputCancelingFeature here bandwagon and pushing it as a big selling poin. Big W for Corsair, doing what Logitech are too coward to do, and using industry standard switches and keycaps so you can actually replace them. Infuriates me to no end that Logitech make $200-400 keyboards like their G915 TKL Lightspeed to be 100% proprietary with no replacement keycaps to be found whatsoever. They don't even provide the CAD files for you to 3D print some yourself. Big L for Corsair though, for not adding a battery and not making it wireless. There is literally no disadvantage of wireless keyboards and mice these days. I'd have bought this keyboard in an instant to replace my G915 TKL... IF ONLY IT WAS WIRELESS.
@FelanLPАй бұрын
To be honest keyboards should all work like this: As soon as you press down, it registers as a press. As soon as you lift you finger, it registers as a release. No matter how far it was pressed or released before. That's not cheating, that just proper input management. And how you handle n-key-rollover (if this so the correct term here) should also be the user's choice. Either send all pressed keys simultaneously (n-key rollover) or just the last one (proper gaming peripheral). That's not cheating but again just proper input management. 0-key rollover would then be kinda like only sending the first pressed key. This would be useful when simulating a typewriter, but since it is an option, it should therefor at least be an option for the user.
@FelanLPАй бұрын
And it wouldn't even be cheating it you can manage your n-key rollover settings individually from key to key. Because if that isn't allowed, it should also not be allowed to change keybinds in the first place.
@zerorigАй бұрын
n-key rollover just means keys can be registered simultaneously. my old IBM model M for example only has 2-key rollover (any 2 keys can be registered at once) but it really depends on the actual matrix. it can register way more than that but if one of the keys blocks part of the matrix for another it won't register. holding e+r, the f key will not register for example but ctrl+shift+space all do
@FelanLPАй бұрын
@zerorig yes, I know. Being able to a handle all keys and sending them simultaneously, is n-key rollover. Sending only the first key and ignoring the rest, is 0-key rollover. But what would be the equivalent, if only the last one is send? -1 key rollover? Besides that though, all 3 should should an option the user can select in the software, from key to key individually.
