Just made a couple Shortcuts for my iPhone, one for pulling up My Radar (which is a weather app) on my home screen and also the Social Network shortcut is brilliant, I put a bunch of my most used apps on it now I can go to them with two clicks, one to open the menu and one more to pick what app. Thanks so much Stephen.

Great video on automations menu 😄. One great thing I found out is that if you enable both "Is Opened" and "Is Closed" and set it to "toggle" you won't have to create multiple automation for the same app (Just sharing a shorter method to avoid duplication).

Hi, I’m having issues with shortcuts! I have an IPhone 15 plus and trying to change icons! It works with some apps but as soon as I make certain apps into short cuts, all the previous ones I’ve made are suddenly the one I’ve just done! E.g I’ve done about 10 icons as shortcuts and the most recent one is camera. Then once that’s done and click another app e.g calendar, it still opens camera! (And all the rest except maybe 2/3 apps!) please help, nothing else has worked and I have tried EVERYTHING 😭🙏

Thank you! So you can run Shortcuts in the Watch by itself (like my Home ETA Shortcut) but automations only run on your iPhone. There are some Watch actions that can run via automation, but toggling the cellular setting on the watch specifically isn’t possible yet.

Glad it was helpful! In the Shortcuts app, go to the automations tab, then choose app as the trigger. Say when app is opened, then add the media volume action and bring it to zero!

I like the QR code for Wi-Fi but are you able to set it up so that it shares your hotspot from your phone and password to a third-party who needs to link to your phone? I downloaded the shortcut you created for generate QR code but I can't seem to work out, how to put in my hotspot into the coded steps. if you could help that would be great.

The issue with hotspot is that unless the Apple ID is in your iCloud family, your phone needs to be open on the Hotspot page for the network to be discoverable. If you're on that page on your iPhone, you can create a QR code where the network name is the name of your iPhone as it appears to others, and the password you have set on that page.

I tried every way to send the full link, but the link here doesn't seem to allow it. I have a 3rd party app that has no builtin shortcuts items. It presents a screen that requires me to touch one of several possible buttons to make a selection. Touch is the only interface the app has until a selection is made, then a keyboard opens for input. Is it possible to simulate a touch on the screen at a specific location? If I can get that far I may be able to create some functional shortcuts. Thanks for great tutorial.

Thanks for watching! Using accessibility, you can simulate physical touches on screen with touch accommodations. Then depending on how you’re using it, may be trigger-able by a shortcut. So look in Accessibility settings > Touch > Assistive Touch > Create New Gesture

I created an automation that I use with a smart outlet to only charge my iPhone when the battery goes under 30% and stop charging after 80%. That way my battery health is always at 100% even after 2 years of use.

Is there a way to have an automation that saves my clipboards, either over iOS or OSX, and stores into a note in an Apple Notes Group? I bought the app ‘copied’ a few years ago. It did a great job until they closed it down.

That would be awesome, but unfortunately iOS and iPadOS doesn’t give any kind of API for apps to access the clipboard “automatically.” Best you can do is create a shortcut that gets clipboard > append or creates a note with content. Then you can add that to a back tap or action button and have it easily run any time

Is it possible to create a shortcut for the action button that when clicked turns Wi-Fi on and cellular data off and when you click it again, turns Wi-Fi off and cellular data on? So basically, vice versa. I’ve tried making my own, but whenever I am disconnected from the Wi-Fi, but my Wi-Fi is still on the shortcut fails to work. Please comment in response to my comment so I can get a notification and please help me.

You can! You’ll need to use an if statement to use the action as a toggle. I’ll include this in my next round of asked-for shortcuts! Plan to publish next weekend

@@beardfmhey me again, I was wondering if there is a way that you can make a shortcut that acts as a toggle for airdrop so everytime you click it turns it off and next time you click it turns it on and vice versa. I am aware that you can make 2 separate shortcuts to turn it off and on but I need them all in one shortcut so I can add it to the home screen as one icon and one click

Stephen, I find that sometimes shortcuts that use “Choose From Menu” stall and don’t finish and then prevent other “Choose From Menu” shortcuts from running. The only way to “clear” the shortcut which is stalled is to restart my phone. I’ve found some other user comments from a few years ago where they were also having this problem. Do you know of a way where I could stop or reset any active shortcut or how I could use “Choose From List” to accomplish the same result as “Choose From Menu”?

I am honored to receive your reply! Thank you! There is no consistency except it just happens occasionally with shortcuts that utilize the "Choose From Menu" option. Shortcuts that result with singular actions (ex toggle mute) still work after it happens but any shortcuts utilizing Choose From Menu don't work until I restart. I read various things online about how it's connected to available memory, how using Choose From List could potentially be a workaround, etc It sucks because I finely honed by shortcuts by Focus and experimented with Focus-specific menus and such. @@beardfm

@@beardfm actually the very last time it happened i wasn’t launching a shortcut with “choose from menu”, I was attempting to run/open a folder of shortcuts (to display as a menu with 8 total options, displayed 4 across) using the action button. The icon for the shortcut to open that folder was visible in the Dynamic Island but it was stalled and I couldn’t get it to finish or delete. The outcome was the same as before) I couldn’t run any menu-based shortcuts, only non-menu ones. Restarting was the only option). No one at my local Apple stores has encountered this and the only user comments I’ve found online about the issue are from several years ago with no resolution.

@@beardfm last message, sorry …but I think I found a solution and am excited to learn more this weekend. Regarding the stalled shortcuts… I believe I figured out a process to actually clear them when it happens. I assigned a different action or two to the action button and then no action to it…and then I saw 2-3 shortcuts that were held rapidly go through. Next I’m gonna figure out some shortcuts with minor scripting and also figure out if I can get circular Home Screen icons instead of square.

Sorry if this is dumb, but why would you create a shortcuts menu with apps inside to run them? Isn't that the same as just taping on the icon on your Home Screen?

If you wanted what looked like 1 app to allow you to open multiple choice then a Shortcut is great for that! I don’t particularly like the look of an app folder on my Home Screen so this allows a custom icon.

I do it to reduce clutter on my home screen. Instead of 3 or 4 music apps for example, set one icon to open up a menu with all the choices. Then do the same with social media, or smart home, or whatever you might commonly use. Doing this, along with a few stacked widgets, you can make one screen that does pretty much all you need. You can do the same with app folders, but like the other guy said, this looks alot cleaner... and you can make the icons whatever you want. Plus you can do more than just open apps... you can run actions, or chain multiple actions.

How do you set a scene to for HomeKit? If scene is on turn off and if off turn on. When I select input it shows select accessory, but I’m not given the option to select my scene. Only accessories

Unfortunately, "Scenes" don't have a "get status" option, so you can't create a toggle. The best you can do is choose an accessory you use within that scene to check the status, and then run an if statement that controls the scene based on that one device.
