As an old lady I was surprised what young people will pay for a hem. Up to $25-30$ !! No wonder they come to me for a 7 $ hem.

That looks amazing. Especially for stitching such a small hem change and still using the original hem.

Great tutorial! My mom taught me the hammer trick on jeans. I have also used a pair of long-nosed pliers to squeeze down the material. I also have an alterations shop. I am always looking for new tips and techniques. You are very informative! Thank you.😊

I would definitely never do this for myself, but I agree with you that if a customer is willing to pay, I will do any level of complicated job. For myself though, I actually almost never do alterations! If something doesn’t fit, I just buy something else that does fit. Because I know how much work it is and I don’t feel like it’s worth it! I do repairs for myself, but almost never alterations.
@DowntownTailoring6 ай бұрын
I understand your point, and it was exactly my point until recently. But lately, I have to admit that it is becoming increasingly impossible to buy clothes that really fit. This is why I have accepted that I'll have to make some adjustments to the garments I buy, mostly when I get them online. Cheers 🥰🥰🥰
@amykathleen26 ай бұрын
@@DowntownTailoring That’s true, but I don’t need to buy clothes very often so I feel like I can be as picky as I want! I also force the clothes I have to last a long time. I have three pairs of athletic pants that were the right length when I got them because they were from the kids’ section. I’ve had them almost 10 years and I keep repairing them because the style I like is not in fashion for kids right now! So I’m stubbornly waiting for the style to come back around, rather than buying adult pants that would be too long, or buying a style I don’t like.

Great job! No. I would not take it on. If I was younger, I probably would. I lived more dangerously then. LOL. Now, my hands aren't as strong. I don't like to take on jean hems. I refer them to my younger friends who love to do alterations of that kind.

For me - too much work for just half an inch! 😳 I'd just live with it. If it needed shortening by one inch or more, I'd cut off and then hem (with the exact match for thread). Of course I don't need to satisfy customers 🤣
