Erm, Aspen was sort of right, but here are some corrections: The first death of a child was caused by an incident at the original location, Fredbear's Family Diner. William Afton's youngest son was killed by one of the animatronics after Michael, the oldest son, put him in Fredbear's mouth as a prank, which resulted in his entire head being crushed, killing him. Whether or not his spirit lingers is up for debate. William Afton's Daughter, Elizabeth, was killed not too long after. Circus Baby, an animatronic designed by Afton with the intent of capturing and killing victims to harvest remnant, was her first and only capture, and her spirit would come to inhabit Baby. The next victim, Charlie, aka the Puppet, aka Henry's daughter, was murdered outside of a Freddy's location early in the timeline by William Afton. At that Freddy's, there was the Puppet, which was programmed to protect children it was assigned to with special wristbands. When Charlie was killed, the puppet found her body, and was possessed by her spirit. Following this was the incident at Freddy's in 1985, where Afton lured 5 children to the back room and murdered them, hiding their bodies in the animatronic suits. Their spirits were reawakened by Charlie, now in the Puppet. It is then implied in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 that yet another set of murders occured at the new Freddy Fazbear's, which caused the Toy animatronics to be become haunted as well. In total, there are at least 20 known dead children in this franchise, 15 if you don't count the unconfirmed murders. Security Breach implies that there may be even more, but the details of that are all a mess. Michael Afton did, technically, die, but he was brought back with the use of remnant, a liquid metal-like substance that contains the spirit. This substance can infuse anything with life. After Elizabeth is killed by Baby, William sends Michael, his only living son, to free her from Baby. When Micheal goes to do this, he is tricked by her and the other animatronics in the facility, and has his innards scooped out so that the animatronics can merge themselves together and use his skin to hide and escape. They do this, but of course, Micheal's body begins to rot, and they eject themselves from it. Because his body was infused with remnant when he was scooped (The machine the animatronics use to scoop him was intended to collect and inject remnant), he technically survived. Aspen was right about the box. It was going to be opened, but it was decided to be left alone, and has simply been described as "the pieces put together". It seems to be metaphorical rather than literal. Another integral part of the lore was my wife leaving me in 1996. She told me I spent too much time theorizing about teen horror franchises, and I said "it all started in 1983, when 2 business partners-" to which she promptly shot me in the chest and fled. to answer the questions aspen didn't: the first kid killed by William was possessed by the puppet because the puppet was made to protect kids from William Afton and on that night it failed since it couldn't get out of its box. The puppet then gave the little girl life by making her the puppet. She then gave life to 5 other kids life which is why the first game has 5 animatronics, those are the kids. The locked box is a box that gets shown to you when you beat FNAF 4 and Scott cawthon intended to release the secret behind it in an update but then never did because "nobody could figure out the story" but like most people think its because he didn't know what to put in it or to fuck with MatPat. Although I think the box has been talked about briefly in the books.

to add uneeded things the animatronics of FNAF 2 were made by Henry to stop William Afton and other similar people from being anywhere near the store. Those animatronics are not possessed by kids because Henry didn't like the idea of the FNAF 1 animatronics needing dark magic dead kids from working. So William Afton killed Henry's daughters out of spite.

The locked box is the FNAF 6(pizza simulator) Map loadout when you check out the layout. It was said that it represents all the pieces being locked away (All lose ends aka animatronics like scrapped baby, Lefty (Puppet), Afton and Micheal and to end it all by burning the place down. Hence why you see the locked box in the shape of the map layout in the Fnaf 6 ending.
