People who know the lingo can instantly recognise their fellow travelers after a couple of words/sentences are spoken, and they can also instantly weed out the nonbelievers and smelly proles from their lack of wokewaffling, in much the same way an Aristocrat might have noticed your poor french or lack of ballroom dancing skill. It is ironic though that a movement purportedly for the underprivileged has developed a jargon to exclude those stinky have-nothings.

@nobody20212 жыл бұрын
It's only a not a choice insofar that it doesn't cause you to discriminate against a trans person. It used to be accepted as a valid defense for gay people to explain why they weren't straight, while homophobic people would say, no it is a choice, you choose to be gay and your choice is evil. Now that same homophobic rationale is turned around on both gay and straight people when their orientation causes them to not have sex with a trans person who's biology doesn't align with their "preference" despite them identifying as what you're attracted to. Your choice is still evil, it's just evil for a different reason.
@p.s.shnabel34092 жыл бұрын
Also, it *is* a choice. Gay men/lesbian women have been known to have led a "normal" life outwardly: married with children. A often necessary ruse. Prisons may result in homosexual relations, as well. Both, admittedly, not examples of free choice; but choice nonetheless. We all can also choose to abstain and many religious orders demand their members do. And then there's those who are somewhat ambivalent, yet choose to only pick partners of one sex.
@markzuckergecko6212 жыл бұрын
What's always been hilarious to me, is that by making such a big deal about choice vs "born that way", leftists are accidentally admitting that they think there's something wrong with being gay. Because if there was nothing wrong with it, it wouldn't matter whether you choose to be that way or if it's just your inherent nature. Nobody ever argues that they like chocolate ice cream because their taste buds were just naturally oriented that way, because it doesn't matter, nobody cares what kind of ice cream you like.
@Xplora2132 жыл бұрын
@@nobody2021 the biblical facts were that homosexual inclination and attraction was not the issue. It was specifically the act. Temptation sits with many different people in different ways. To me, the problem arises when the new jargon tries to supplant existing (and functional) language. It's one thing to adopt a new term because there's an organic need for it. Our language (and as far as I know all languages; I can't imagine how not to) already contains them: pork, kindergarten, psyche ... There have been way too many times that I'm 75% through a paper before I realized that they're talking about some basic tool of the trade, and they've been describing it in ways that seem to only be intended to obfuscate. I guess you kind of have to, because if they just straight up said what they were talking about, there's no way you could make it into an academic journal because it's just using standard tools in standard ways on slightly different equipment.
@Xplora2132 жыл бұрын
Well this is part of the trick. A layman SHOULD be able to read a paper and make sense of it. Everything is referenced. Unfortunately academia doesn’t realise they disappeared into their navel when they started to serve themselves rather than the public. They aren’t forced into public to justify their work and it shows. I have been reading a lot of bodybuilding science extracts from Brad Shoenfeld lately. Take 'good,' for instance. If you have a word like 'good,' what need is there for a word like 'bad'? 'Ungood' will do just as well--better, because it's an exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of 'good,' what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like 'excellent' and 'splendid' and all the rest of them? 'Plusgood' covers the meaning, or 'doubleplusgood' if you want something stronger still...In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words--in reality, only one word. Language tends to do two things as you go further down a particular rabbit hole: 1) It becomes more convoluted, in order to distinguish between finer and finer points. 2) Those who become versed in those terms use them to gatekeep "normies" out of their "expert" space. You see this all across society, in all walks of life where someone seeks to be superior to others: - Aristocrats will snigger at commoners who don't understand the difference between a soup spoon and a tablespoon, or who can't understand a menu written in French. - Academics will look down their nose at laypersons who don't understand technical jargon, or who "fail to appreciate" the utility of distinguishing between strict terms (for instance, "Dementia" vs "Senility", or "Infertility" vs "Sterility"). - The culture warriors who use "newspeak" to distinguish between their allies and the "enemies of the revolution". Those who are not politically-correct (i.e. able to keep up with, and support, the ideology) are treated as enemies... or, at best, "proles". - The nerds who delineate between microscopic points of fact within their autistic areas of interest. They regard those who can't tell ROM from RAM, Vulcans from Romulans, or an Xbox from a Play Station as being "retarded", "fake fans", and such like. I'm not saying that "Gatekeeping is bad" or that "Strict terms are pointless". Both clearly serve a purpose. It's reassuring to know that doctors can tell the difference between different cancers, and it's also true that some people will pretend to be "fake fans" in order to subvert a franchise or fanbase. Sometimes specialist knowledge serves a legitimate purpose, and learning to tell the difference between special terms is genuinely useful However, in any community where insider knowledge is positively correlated with privilege, there will always be those who use their knowledge as a stick to beat outsiders with. This is particularly egregious when that group (such as SJWs) expects wider society to cater to them, rather than them keeping to themselves like the aristocrats of old. The best way to beat them is to refuse to play their game. Tell the toffs that menus in Anglophone countries should bloody well be written in plain English. Tell the academics that hard-working people have better things to do all day than consult JSTOR for the absolute correct definitions. Inform the SJWs that they can stick their pronouns and demi-racial-fluidity where the sun don't shine. Tell the nerds that nobody gives a crap about console generations or TV space aliens. Don't let people push you around. Tell them to fuck off, and and watch how they turn into a red-faced C-3PO.

Definitely a school-age phenomenon that some people took offense to, which blows my mind. Curiosity leading to hair-touching is far preferable to fear or stigma because of the difference in appearance. You shouldn't ever touch someone else without permission if you can help it, but that doesn't make hair-touching racist or anything of the sort even in such a case. For a white guy that grew up around a bunch of straight-haired 'wonderbreads', seeing afros and dreads and stuff was really interesting to me when I was exposed to it in school. Wanting to touch it was a natural result of curiosity, not some sort of power-play. And yeah, I also had really long 'Jesus' hair, so I had mine touched a ton and actually rather appreciated it as a complement.

_'It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn't only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word which is simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take "good", for instance. If you have a word like "good", what need is there for a word like "bad"? "Ungood" will do just as well -- better, because it's an exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of "good", what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like "excellent" and "splendid" and all the rest of them? "Plusgood" covers the meaning, or "doubleplusgood" if you want something stronger still. Of course we use those forms already. but in the final version of Newspeak there'll be nothing else. In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words -- in reality, only one word. Don't you see the beauty of that, Winston? It was B.B.'s idea originally, of course,' he added as an afterthought._ _A sort of vapid eagerness flitted across Winston's face at the mention of Big Brother. Nevertheless Syme immediately detected a certain lack of enthusiasm._ _'You haven't a real appreciation of Newspeak, Winston,' he said almost sadly. 'Even when you write it you're still thinking in Oldspeak. I've read some of those pieces that you write in The Times occasionally. They're good enough, but they're translations. In your heart you'd prefer to stick to Oldspeak, with all its vagueness and its useless shades of meaning. You don't grasp the beauty of the destruction of words. Do you know that Newspeak is the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?'_ _Winston did know that, of course. He smiled, sympathetically he hoped, not trusting himself to speak. Syme bit off another fragment of the dark-coloured bread, chewed it briefly, and went on:_ _'Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. Already, in the Eleventh Edition, we're not far from that point. But the process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for committing thoughtcrime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that. The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect. Newspeak is Ingsoc and Ingsoc is Newspeak,' he added with a sort of mystical satisfaction. 'Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?'_

On the topic of redefining racism, Leftists will say "Well all definitions are made up anyway". While this is true, it doesn't mean all definitions are equally valid. The quality of a definition depends on its social utility. The actual definition of "Racism" is useful in identifying unfair racial double-standards. Conversely, the "Race = Prejudice + Power" definition of "Racism" is only ever useful in _preserving_ and _obfuscating_ unfair racial double-standards. Because the only time we ever hear it is to deflect whenever ordinary people identify the racial prejudice in leftist race politics. The fact that language is made up is irrelevant. The point of language is to make things more clear. If a definition can only ever be used to hide the truth and smuggle bullshit, it doesn't belong in the language.
@crescendo55942 жыл бұрын
Even if we accept the new definition, the old concept still exists. All they’ve done is watered down the word to be less powerful. Racism used to mean the idea that a certain race is superior to another. Now it means a trillion-billion micro-aggressions, plus also the original meaning, but only in certain scenarios. Those trillion-billion definitions, and the stratification of the original definition, only serve to make the word itself less bad. I would much rather be someone who is called racist for doing anything on the list provided by person in video, than being called racist for thinking one race is superior to another. But the real point is that all of their justifications are deflections, anyway. The real reason for the obfuscation of language is to use language as a vehicle for narrative, rather than a vehicle for communication.

One of the most useful things I learned in philosophy class was "The Redefinist Fallacy". When someone redefines key term(s) in an argument in order to circumvent the point of contention, and simply make their position definitionally correct; usually by reducing a statement to a truism. ex. There's a systematic difference in outcome along racial lines, I define racism as any systematic difference in outcome, therefore racism. Clearly, the contention of "is this racist?" was asking whether or not the difference is caused by discrimination along racial lines, and this has been defined out of the discussion. Racism, the distinction or lack thereof between sex and gender, and many others; so much of leftist ideology is built on this sophistry. Actually though, useful isn't the right word to describe it, but I don't know what is. The only good it's done me is facilitate more frustration with the world and people around me, as has learning history, economics, and politics in general. Being right doesn't matter when you have majority rule. Leftists are either too stupid and/or emotionally invested to understand the fallacy, or know exactly what they're doing and thus don't care.

So to them, little nana that's a just old fashioned and stuck in the old ways, that'll make racial slurs and inappropriate comments but really wouldn't hurt a soul and is actually a really sweet person, well she's *worse* than the antifa mouth breathers that are attacking strangers and burning buildings down because of some racism they invented in their head. It's complete insanity.

These people go really far out of their way to justify a future defined by failure and dysfunction.

The John McWhorter article is somewhat misplaced. I recommend you look into his work it’s actually very interesting.
