I have lived in my house 1989. It didn't really have room for a pool table but I put an 8 footer in the basement. It was too close to a wall and there was a post very close on the other side, but I figured I could at least practice some shots on it, which I did. Then last year I had the post removed, and a beam put in, what a difference. I moved the table to the center of the basement and now have ample room for any shot. Wish I did it 20 years earlier. I am thrilled for you moving to a house with good room for your table. As to your video, I went down and practiced the 4 stillness routine. Seemed to work well, I just need to do it a few thousand times so that it is ingrained in my brain. I am sure it will improve my game, thanks.

Ain't that the truth! The advantage the pros have is they can practice 10-12 hours a day. We got other things to do. LOL Yeah, can't wait to play at home with all that room. Thank you and good luck!

Great video! By shooting too fast, do they mean from one shot to the next or during the shot routine? Johny Archer will clean lint off the table or move balls from one pocket to another to slow himself down. It helps settle the mind.

During the shot routine. Picking lint or getting a drink of water, wiping your hands, these are between shoot techniques to relax, recompose and yes, not rush

Great instructions! The third moment of stillness allows me to quiet my eyes and to focus on my AimPoint without rushing my backswing and allowing a pause for my follow-through. Helps a whole bunch. Tim flaherty from Bothell Washington

If you have an acute photographically sensitive mind and execute mostly by feel, observing Fedor Gorst at a very slow video speed will help your consistent execution immensely

At 7:30 when you are checking to make sure that your tip is addressing the CB where you determined when you were standing... I feel like it's intuitive. I don't think '1 tip below center and 1.5 tips to the left'. It's more of a 'feeling' whether where my tip is positioned is correct for what I wanted to happen when I visualized the shot while standing up. Do you think we disagree or it's different from player to player?
@ShortstopOnPool

I think we agree. Some player might be more deliberate, some more intuitive like you and me. The important part is having that moment instead of just swinging right into the stroke delivery.

Bob, thanks for putting in and sharing this work. Let's imagine that each stillness is some small but significant increase in importance. I'm order of importance, which do you think is the MOST>Least. For instance, if you were to get down into the stance with a subpar stillness, but still did full stillness 2,3,4... Would that be worse than doing full 1,2, subpar3, full 4... Etc. I imagine that 3 is the most important, and that 1 is most important for tension check. Each stillness can probably be bracketed out into points of interest (as in your description of the expanded 30+ process). It's possible that each stillness has 5 variables, with those being able to be labeled in order of a-e for each 1-4 stillness. Ex. 1) sight picture, inner tension, grip tension, breath tension, neutral energy; 2) tip position, shaft alignment, consistent feather rhythm, peripheral shaft awareness, grip tension recheck; 3) still eyes, breath tension, tip position, neutral energy, calm; EXECUTION; 4) ghost tip awareness and successful/unsuccessful achievement of this, hearing the Tip/CB or CB/OB, or OB/pocket, head still.

Wow, thats more detailed that even I considered. 3 is most important. But I wouldn't think like that. They all work together.

Extremely powerful video. You should take a Mark Wilson course if you haven't. Your concepts are extremely similar!!! He teaches an excellent 6 step shot routine that vary similar. I've added a couple of steps to enforce my shortcuts. One being verify a firm bridge.

Took a private lesson with Mark two years ago, clinic one year ago. And have his book. I don't attempt to parrot him, he has his own style. But huge influence of course.

I've only tried this out a couple of days, but I think this is one of the biggest eye-openers for my game, espescially to keeping focused on every single ball. And it's so easy that it's quite embarassing/astonishing/choose whatever you like. I have actually five moments of stillness (used to have two and sometimes three, 1: the pause before the final backstroke, 2: after the final backstroke, and sometimes 3: after actually delivering the cue). Sometimes I go down on a shot too fast, so the first moment of stillness is really helpful that way. It makes me certain that I am actually aiming thoroughly. The second moment of stillness I find is really helpful to check that my front foot and bridge and my alignment is correct even before starting feathering. The third moment, at least in my game, is the most decisive. If i really aim here with my cuetip at the cueball and see/feel the shot at this point, this is a big boost of confidence! My fourth (at the end of the slow transition and right before you pull the trigger), which you didn't include, is like my final feel and my final way to stop and start all over again. I find this moment of stillness to alter the most in time I use on it. On an easy shot, it will be quite brief, but the more difficult shot, the more I will use on it (probably no more than 3-4 seconds though). And the last moment of stillness is important, but one I for some reason keep being too sloppy at. I think concentrating at these moments, and making them second nature, is essential to at least my game, so thank you for posting :-)

I agree the 3rd one is most important. I have always shot too fast so these stillnesses are helping my game as well. Thank you!

Appreciate the video. Been incorporating the 2nd moment of silence more in my game since watching this. One useful exercise is to not use any pre strokes and just shoot after the second moment of silence to make sure your aim is correct. Ive used the pre strokes to adjust aim in the past, so thats been helping make sure the second moment of silence makes sure the aim is correct
