Shorty - The mummy on a Harley

Many years ago, in a completely different universe, it was usual practice for engineers to place eastereggs and PCB art into computers. This is one of them. A mummy riding a Harley with LED head and brake lights. I just don’t know when the red brake light turns on…
Some Cisco swiches had a fat Buddha printed on the PCB and Tektronix oscilloscopes show the wizard on a skateboard on the screen.
I also know a HP Scanjet scanner that plays a tune with it's motors when the right buttons are pressed.

Don't you just love engineers having fun. Never managed to get anything past QC in all my years in engineering. but did almost email a document where word had changed "Co-pilot" to "copulate" 🙂

Fabulous. Sun sometimes put stuff on their boards. Had a network driver called FHC. Stood for fire-hose-controller. There was a Primos (ever hear of Prime Computer?) condition called ‘Blazer_stuck_on_a_rock$’

Probably a practice carried over from Compaq where these products originated. It was very common for Compaq PCB engineers to put these in their layouts.

The fans even "rev up the engine" a few times when the server powers up. There was a VERY bored / overly qualified for what they were actually working on engineer that did this!

Well, there's a clue to the red LED's function in the text around it- STPCLK is a signal used to temporarily halt the CPU, often for purposes of power management. It has been present on Intel CPUs since the 486DX2, though not all chipsets support it, and I don't know how many more modern ones have a STPCLK pin.

I think STPCLK is issued by the chipset to prevent damaging the CPU. It's basically thermal throttling the speed to 0. If the machine is destined for scrap anyways, you could try removing the CPU cooler…
